cuter okay so now we are we have started recording so only serious comments and discussion until we stop recording okay so in any case that's a new feature first you have to go to you know the basic Zoom website and download the latest version and then you have to enable it okay so let me see if I can and by the way let me put the key for people who arrived a little bit later I'm going to Pace the attendance Link in the chat one more time before I remove office we've got about 27 participants of course some of you are in here on two devices and it looks like about 13 people have completed the the sign in sheet so go ahead and the rest of you do that and then I'm going to share my screen and we'll get to enable that once you've done to download because I'm going to start sharing the screen and I'm just going to share one thing okay so in your settings so again you have to download the latest version First in your settings okay you have to find the area where it says live downloading like many things I don't know if you're aware but if you use your keyboard at least on a Mac on a PC control s okay when you're on a website let's see if I can get it to work did you notice up at the top this little search bar can you see that's a little search bar so that will help you search the web page that you're looking at this control s those of you who use the max can you just visit the same is it like what is it that control F4 know that whatever that that little Auntie C's we have control on Maxwell. Other thing loop-de-loop thing so if I start to type live okay everywhere that word live is on the screen that you're looking at is listed so I can see there's four occasions of Live And so by clicking on the down arrow since so the first one is there on the left you can see and then the second one it says what oh look in the able live transcription service okay and so what you do is a click on that check box okay and then when you're in the meeting you look at your bar here and let me stop the sharing for a moment and Lexi you probably you may not have it actually let me let me start this year again see if I can share the whole screen and see if you can see it it may be a little bit confusing because you're going to see two menu bars if I can I'm looking at the other ones to see if you see what I'm moving around it may not may not work so well trying to share the the bars but let me expand this so it couldn't be down at the bottom it says live transcript or perhaps DC closed caption and then you can click on that and it will start working that would be something that Ciara I'm moving my mouse it says live transcript and the but you can hide it Little Caesars menu items okay so as the teacher that's what you would see in you you would control that so and again it's an option you don't have to you know make use of it but there may be some situations where it could be helpful so that's something new now the next new thing is during the share let me stop let me share the screen again okay and so you can see right now you should be able to view this is the dialog box where you I share things with your students and noticed I've got a lot of windows open I've got a lot of activity so instead of sharing the screen less I want to share my browser okay and now notice there's a new command can anybody tell me what the new command is or the new Option did you see the little pop-up down near the bottom holds control to select multiple windows show that is new so if I'm going to hold my control down so now I'm going to pick a Word document okay that's the agenda so on the left as my browser on the right is my agenda I lift up control two items are selected and I can share okay so then as I'm sharing I can I see the two window that are that I'm sharing their highlighted with the green border and let me get my browser back right cuz hopefully you'll see the browser as well let me resize it could this is a new feature. What do you think about that at a time or share your whole desktop from where you're sitting can you can you enlarge one at a time or do you they are automatically a little bit smaller because you had both of you pretty much Watch What Happens I can reset like for example I'm going to take the one says agenda and I made it a little bit smaller the window it should follow through see how see how it follow through and so I'm going to make the the web browser a little bit larger okay so you had you can adjust it but what but you only see those two windows that I designated more windows open but you don't see them so again I'm going to stop the share let me just do it one more time and by the way there's another setting in your resume settings with how's the zoom window itself the zoom commands to be visible okay and so that's why you can sort of see what I'm doing on the on the back you can see my menus basically so again I'm going to select share screen which is the same as it's always been okay let's see hopefully it will follow Alexia first let me share the desktop I guess okay so now I'm going to select my share screen if it popped up for you guys there you go okay so I'm sharing my screen in order to show you how to do the share screen okay but because I pre-selected show the zoom Windows you can see what I'm doing okay so I slid say I wanted to do my paint cyclic on paint and then now I get this message it says hold control to select multiple windows so I on my keyboard I select control and then I'm going to select my word documents over there so now I'm a fairy so we can see multiple windows with that select another please so we can seem okay and then I have my okay this is there an Explorer win okay so now you should see three Windows highlighted right paint word and the Explorer window with many of my favorite bitmojis it doesn't it's just grayed out maybe in this part of the application know you know maybe the Whiteboard it doesn't it doesn't seem to be allowing me to click on that so you even this refers problem only two sharing Windows okay so now that I've selected three I click on share so now this is a new share okay let me get rid of it you don't need to see all the videos again so but there's one on top of another so I'm going to move my paint over here to the right and that should follow through and then I'm going to read size the file explorer window to the center and that should follow through see now it's you can see it in the shared window and then the third window is way over on the left and it's the agenda again what do you think about that what is the maximum I don't know I haven't tried it you know if you're going to do the maximum you might as well just share your whole desktop but what this allows us to do is share more than one window at a time but not share your desktop so for example you may have you know like your email open you know you cute you want to have your email open but you don't need your students to see your email and so you could share to Windows and also have your email open okay great those are some new features so at the end of this meeting you know where to find the downloads really okay let me let me go back to just the window with the zoom meetings so this is zoom typically the way I find it to go all the way down to the bottom if you see that there's this is just like you know we are days. Zoom. You answer. LAUSD it says download and then it says the meetings client and when you click there you go to a page which has all the various latest downloads okay this would be the one and then but notice what it says is it should update automatically when you start or join your very first but what I do know I just go ahead and download it and then you know you click at the bar I'm at the window to get it running and then it should automatically open up a new Zoom window so don't do it right now cuz it will ask if you want to leave the meeting here in okay and then it's Dennis should work but you have to remember for the for the the feature of sharing more than one window you don't have to turn anything or off but for the future of the live transcripts video okay great okay so moving right along in Zoom in schoology I hope that by now everybody is has their schoology classrooms arranged so that students know to click on the link Within Zoom sorry within schoology to access your resume and that's District policy so I'm not going to go over again how to do that but just remember there are multiple ways how to make your Zoom URL links available to your students from within schoology and we should not we should no longer accept in unusual situations be emailing out the zoom link salt that's the other thing that I wanted to chat about self the big topic so hopefully for the rest of the the time is using breakout rooms so I'm really pleased that we have huge number of people so that we can really get a great breakout room experience and hopefully is the the activities that I have plan for you in your breakout rooms will be successful and my ideas for haps give some of you an opportunity at one side we do it the first time to actually be a co-host and and try to manage the breakout room experience within this safe environment of our training and of course if you know if you come to office hours I think you know that some of you are very familiar with my office hours Tuesday afternoons 1/2 is it one get 1/2 at 2:30 and Thursday evenings 4:30 to 6 but not next week and then you know you can you can practice using breakout rooms there before you try it with the students of course if you've already educated your students that this is a learning experience for everybody and that you know just hopefully they're willing to know go along with you if you experiment with some of these techniques then it doesn't matter you can just experiment and try it out with your students okay so what I want to do now again I'm going to share my screen let's go to one of my schoology rooms or my schoology courses and I want to share a video little how to video made by my good friend for Santa kasim was also the ITT a over at Evans Community adult school and has been a frequent litter to a trainings and as well as some of my office hours typically when I need assistance the first ITA that I turn to so I can learn how to do things so I have a little video here so this video is in my one of my sandbox is a some of you may be members of the sandbox so you'll able to access it as well this if it's the one that says Barry sandbox my practice and discuss the Star Trek bitmoji classroom so if you're not remember this one so young I can always add you as a member of of this one if you let me know and I'll turn it to where I can some of you may be members of one of my other sandboxes just let me know I could probably put this video there is well so what I'd like to do XX. The share for a moment because I have to remember to Sheriff computer sound before I start sharing something like that okay so here we go confirm this time I'm going to click on this one that says using breakout rooms it's a is 3 and 1/2 minutes let me know if you're hearing the sound when I start but this is a very general overview all of the tools and all of the menu items so here we go let's hopefully this will work very nicely and let me expand it so let's see if we're getting the entire screen and let me click play Let me just pause it for a moment how's the sound play the music there's no speaking narration it's just the sound if the volume on the sound is too high you just adjust that on your own headset or your own computers turn down the volume of your computer self a banana cake let me go ahead and continue okay I see there's a question something is something I asked is already been answered in if students okay student showed up late you know to class and the breakout rooms already set up so I've had a couple times I've had a little problem assigning them into the room well you know as I don't have any of my own students I don't have as much actual practice but what I'm going to do now is I'm going to put you guys all into fake out rooms okay and you can discuss some of these things in the breakout room so we're going to we're going to try this I'm also going to give you a little a sign to do while you're in the breakout room so let me get that ready okay and let me just say I'm going to it's a little quiz so I'm putting it in the the chat box now for everybody okay and so you may want to you know prep copy you use your copy function to copy it now because then when you're in your break out room perhaps you know you don't all individual you have to do this or you could or you could decide to you no have one person be the reporter and fill out as you discuss the questions you know one person can fill out the the quiz regarding the breakout rooms okay and then when we come back to the main session the reporter can you know report back on the questions the ice and Antonio are you ready one quick question yet and breakout rooms can students share their screens if we put multiple screens before they going to break out room can they how do we set it up so it's again I may have to look into the settings on that and you know perhaps in your break out room you'll be paired up with somebody who has that experience and you can you don't discuss it together and again for me because these trainings are really the only time that I get to work with a lot of these things with actual people I don't have as much experience with some of the techniques as maybe some of you do experience that you don't have to do an able anything I think students wants to go to breakout rooms they can share so I'm going to click on the tab at the bottom that says break out rooms that I see and what I'm going to say we've got about the 28th so maybe I'm going to make three breakout rooms okay and I'm going to create a I'm going to assign you to the different breakout rooms maybe for will do for rooms okay and so I'm going to start to assign people at random down the list okay I've got to see I'm a put I'm just doing this at random here and so you may be in a room with your other device or you may not be all right and I'm still just doing that and we got the few more let's see how we're doing okay so I chose the path of manually selecting people of participants to go into different rooms okay and so when I click on open all rooms you should see a little message that says Please join the breakout room okay and then it is everybody clear about the task that you're going to be going in the breakout room you're going to be filling out the quiz completing the quiz I miss Castillo you look a little bit so we'll be filling out the quiz base what we learn from our partners Midwest or indeed yes hopefully it will have some of that information maybe you learned it by watching the video open all the rooms so you've been invited to join your breakout rooms hopefully says in the main room people are leaving the main room okay and they are moving into the various breakout rooms and again if you may have more than one device so that's fine so try to try to join with as many devices as you if that's overwhelming just join with the one but that's my whole thing I want to learn today so I'm just saying. I'm going to go Round Rock to make sure everybody's been there rooms are you clear about the assignment Barry I don't know how to get the quiz okay I'm good or did you copy and paste it from before one of you perhaps could open up the quiz and share your screen and then you can work on it as a group all right yeah I got it I got to figure in 15 minutes for my PLC to the West Valley's is 1/3 as long as you did you fill out the attendance sheet with that information I put that information and so I'm probably going to still have one of my devices in the room but I'm going to be I have to be fully active so that's up to you. you know they're going to be okay that's I'm just said okay I'm going to go check in on the other breakout rooms good luck everybody Breakout everybody good so who's actually sharing this caseo you took the lead in your sharing your screen sharing to answer just one question 1 as a group together okay thank you I so I'm going to go visit one the other room see you in a little while already having a different chat rooms that's because I know that you're very capable multitasking Miss King Arthur can you hear me everybody hello I'm just making the rounds of the breakout room to make sure everybody is on task and nobody is super or down where it works but on one question we don't know the last one question were wondering about it say do not leave the room at any time do they come back to the main session is my students get lost I thought they automatically came back to the main station if they clicked sleep what will hold that for the the the group analysis when we get back just make a decision I'm going to give you a more time just hang out anyway because I have to visit the last room okay day I don't know what else looks fine. Anna was you were just testing out that very nice okay you keep that in mind you know when we were in the group I'm going to leave the room for a moment let you carry on okay okay so I seen that the participants are returning everybody should be here in about one second cuz they all got booted out if it didn't come back early this out already I see there's a question from my music with a o what is the squeaky wheel or something however Mr bikini I didn't we didn't have an opportunity to explore my question which is that a couple of times is in the past month didn't show up a bit late to the session and I try to add them into a breakout room and I unless I recreate all new breakout rooms how do I add them into a breakout room I would I would have thought that there would have been a way to add a student but you know again I don't have that experience so does it can anybody else responsible yeah if if I recall that it did happen to me and wasn't that situation but somebody popped out of the zoom because they hit the wrong button or whatever and I was able to replace them back into their own room or a different room really funny issue because if you open up the breakout room paddle one more time and you will see who is not a sign then you couldn't assign and you can choose the room that you want them to go to Costco Okay so any other questions before we get to the quiz itself actually have a question about breakout room recently students who could normally finding they are unable to join my zoom link and they can't I saw your information so people can come that's okay thinking that was the problem but that was not the problem and I just did a rough interview with other students other other teachers they said they were having the same problem recently does anybody have that experience as to why they having trouble logging on Ms via I didn't have that experience but I know that there is an option when you are setting up your desired features to choose only people with in your District or email designation if you click on that that means only those people who are using their address their district emails will be able to enter the meeting if you unsend choose that then by any device and any form of access they will be able to get into your Zoom meeting now I only have my students enter Zoom from schoology so they will always be using their District email but every so often you know they're doing a family success and we have no training randomly all the time and they may not be so thank you that's a really that's in the front page only with district ID I think it's called authorized we can also look into that okay so let's go ahead take a look at the the queers and see how we how we did on that let me share the right screen okay so this is just a another form of the of the quiz so what would somebody like to represent breakout room and report for number one so where do you go to turn on the zoom Breakout feature lausd.net Zoom. Let's get some feedback from everybody else do we agree automatically or manually yes okay thank you and then once you create a breakout room you can no longer rename or delete it maybe somebody from room 3 false I think I think that so are you are you selecting true or false yeah okay good want your students in a breakout room can return to the main session a room at any time maybe somebody in there who hasn't answered yet was maybe for room for are we said Trooper room for no the rest of you do you agree yeah and then I can be a nice features know if a particular student you may want to let them know that that it's okay hey that you know that they need to come back and ask a question that's okay five what feature will allow you to communicate with your students in the breakout rooms go ahead what do you think broadcast broadcast okay did everybody agree on that the first thing somebody made choose with might be chat but Chad is on within an individual once you started the breakout rooms it's only within that individual breakout room so it's the broadcast feature you remember the the the broadcast message that I sent you I get ready you know the end okay and then you can move students to a different breakout room at any time move them around as well so that would be yours and then are you can add more rooms if you have latecomers yes yes yes again how about this one how many breakout rooms can you create it's 50 yeah that's the total maximum I don't I think very few of us would want to do 50 breakout rooms and you imagine trying to visit 50 breakout rooms but me Caso and for most of us of course we'd have like one student in each break out room if we did that ok every one of your students will be able to use all of the features of zoom and breakout rooms okay I heard one know so what one Falls I say Falls because they're getting better all the time but some of the devices just don't if they can get into some of the features that can't get into all of the features or make access of all of the features and so that's why it's nice to be trying to do some of these things are within from different device okay and then finally just what are some of the things that you noticed in the breakout room that you know from the device that you were using astracast BK I didn't hear that chat chat okay and did any of you who were in the room from two devices did you try comparing to see if you could do everything in both devices and my case it wasn't enough time I was concerned more about fishing the quiz is something that you can no further explore you know before you try some of these activities with students you're also getting better so you know some of the device you know that's a zoom Progressive they're making improvements to the to the product Okay so let me go back 2 my sandbox here let's see if your share okay so so that video again it's this sandbox here with the star track you know as long as they let me go to the members real quickly if you would like to have access to that video so you can watch it again and again and these are the people right now numbers in their carols in their Nabil Mystic ribbons in their mr. to go to this link and then remember the link could be an assignment with in your schoology course so you could give them a directions to okay go to the go to the this folder in the school course you may have to say may have to be familiar with opening up multiple windows you know so that they have the zoom so they can discuss things in the breakout room but it didn't have another window open so they can COC the actual assignment in another schoology course and then again that's also the reason why you know if students are doing this on mobile phones with a little tiny screen doctor alloco I feel so experienced okay well there you go see if you think your take a little bit of nail practicing so let's go ahead let's have somebody perhaps who has never volunteer never been out in the Forefront I could volunteer you because I I know who you could be but I'll give somebody know somebody who maybe works on airplanes I'm very happy Larry I'm really happy to see you you come to one of the training then yeah I have to learn something here this is a challenging but I don't want it I don't want to do a break come on perspective getting into an air launching yourself propelling yourself into the air and then get making back safely that's something that I think would be petrifying to me no no thank you though I'm extremely shy when I get putter but I'm not much better in my own comfort zone hello to everyone if you can come to the office hours and if we could you could try it in a as much smaller group or environment okay somebody else then we just like to try it otherwise you know will call it afternoon Perhaps it is really fun to do the breakout rooms Cuz my students who are shy you compare the manually with someone who's confident I made it speaks their own language or something and then they come back and they're all ready to present to the class before we go any further on this speaker could you return me to my lofty position is host thank you go ahead it's also works if you got student to all speak the same language and they're used to only talking to people at their level and they're in their language here it's put them in some place uncomfortable communicate in English makes a little tough so they have him so breakout room School yeah ghost helps build a sense of community to yes absolutely and I think that you know if you're involved with projects are trying to get students to complete projects then your breakout rooms would be one way to to do that but again you know just like so many things you actually have to try it and you have to you know experienced some of those little glitches you know before you get gain more more confidence and you know but if you again if you inform your students that you know this is new for everybody then they're sort of with you in this learning experience Okay so the clothes how many of you who have never tried using breakout rooms at all have sort of felt expired by this session to sort of try it thank you dr. John and then that's great and if you appear in the office hours you know on Tuesdays and Thursdays you know there's always at least a couple of people we can try this and again you always you can just answer with audible devices you know and try it yourself you know start your Zoom from your laptop and then join the zoom from your phone and then get your kids to join the zoom from their phones and and and practice so okay I posted the sign in sheet again in the chat let me just click over to let me stop recording also
