0:00 Hi everyone, this is Principal Melissa McCarthy within North Valley Occupational Center, and this is the video update for the week of July 22nd, 2024.
0:10 First I want to start with some messages to our students. And while I'm talking to you, I'm going to just move us over to our website.
0:18 We will be showing you a couple of features on our website. Students, I wanted to remind you that priority registration is taking place this week.
0:26 For those of you that are enrolled in our summer program, please take advantage of priority registration for the fall. Our advisement staff and counseling teams have reached out to your teachers to let them know when it's time for you to do priority registration.
0:40 Remember that this is the last week of summer school. So this is a great opportunity to take advantage and get yourself registered for the fall term and secure your spaces in class.
0:50 Because after this week, starting next Monday, we will be opening up our registration to the general public. We expect to be very busy with all of our class is filling quickly.
1:03 Also, I wanted to mention to our students and our staff so you're aware that after this week concludes and our summer session has ended, we will have all three of our campuses open for the general public but only during day hours.
1:19 We will have clerical staff. out. They are to answer phones and assist people with lock-ins. And yes, students, if you want to attend the Rinaldi campus or the East Valley skill center campus besides the North Valley Occupational Center campus, you can visit those campuses and register there directly
1:38 at that campus starting next year. Next week, that would be uh the week of, let's see here, July 29th, okay?
1:51 So again, July 29th, it will open to the general public and we will be open for two weeks at those campuses but only during day hours, so please take a advantage.
2:02 Then we will resume our fall term, which of course will include our evening hours as well. Uh, next thing I wanted to mention was I wanted to remind staff that again, whoops sorry.
2:14 I wanted to remind staff that we will be having the optional professional development on August 5th and the 6th from 9 to 3 p.m.
2:23 And again, this is optional if you would like to take advantage of it. The topics we'll be reading as well as technology.
2:30 Finally, not mention numbers for all staff. We will be having the North Valley Occupational Center back to school meeting on Friday August 9th from 8 in the morning to 10 a.m.
2:43 here in North Valley in the cafeteria. We will be serving breakfast food and refreshments so we hope that you will join us.
2:50 Again, all staff, please plan on reporting to North Valley if you will be coming in that day to work. For our certificated teams if you are not going to take advantage of that day which happens to be an optional planning and prep day then we will save a packet for you when we will slip it into your mailbox
3:08 so that you when you return for the fall term you will have the same information. that everyone else received. Next I wanted to highlight that um I got the great opportunity to visit our aviation mechanics program and I am going to show you a few pictures from that program.
3:26 The summer program was different this year. We partnered with local high school, high schools and their students to I'm I'm sorry.
3:33 We're going to bring in 26 high school students to give them a five week introductory program or summer camp on, whoop, sorry, we're almost looking at the same picture here.
3:44 Let me get you some other pictures. To give them a summer camp program to introduce them to aviation mechanics and the aviation industry is a .
3:53 . And it was highly successful. They had a culminating event last Friday, which I was able to attend. And what excited me about this is that these students, many of them walked away saying, my gosh, I didn't know about aviation as a career.
4:08 And now that I've experienced it, I'm excited and I want to get into the program. And guess what? We're going to continue this program into the future and hopefully expand it, which will provide us a whole new group of students to bring into our program and get excited and into the career of aviation
4:26 . Finally, I just want to mention that we have a new feature. On our website, and if you'll notice up here, we have a master calendar.
4:35 If you click on the master calendar, we will actually have all of the events and different types of meetings that are going on, so that we can keep all of our stakeholders informed about what's going on here at the North Valley.
4:49 I can- the educational center as well as our branches. This will be a very important communication tool, so please, student staff, check in where you're going.
