McCarthy with this week's video update message for the week of August 18th 2025 this is the start of our first full week of instruction for the fall term I would like to welcome all of you back and I hope that you're calling into your classes and getting adjusted to your new schedules first of all I want to start out as we often do by checking out our data so I've got great news for you students and staff the first thing I want to do is I want to show you our enrollment data as of this week now we're only 4 days in but the great thing is if you look at the North Valley Line here you'll notice that we're already up by 1% there's not a lot of blue arrows going up so I'm very proud of the fact that we are already ahead of where we were this exact same time last year and if you go over to the adult basic Ed classes you'll see that we're up by huge 43.6% so that just means that our AB programs are continuing to grow and grow and we know there's a great need in the community to really strengthen our Reading Writing and our basic math skills so that we can move on to our high school diplomas high school equivalencies and our Career Technical training programs and Achieve those goals that we except for ourselves speaking of Career Tech good in the CTE area we're also up by a whopping 8% so this is really great news keep up the good work everybody on the enrollment end and recruitment the next piece of data I want to share and although we're only 4 days in I want to point out that we're already on a good Trend in terms of our attendance this is what we refer to as our adult persistence now a reminder that assist a persistence is a measure of how many hours you're attending on regular basis and we track those hours over time because of course we want to emphasize how important is that you're here every single day you know students that if you're not here of course you're not learning and you could fall behind very e e in your classes which means you're not going to achieve your goals and I know that's not what you want you came to school because you're ready to achieve your educational Career Training goals so if you take a look at the North Valley Line I want you to go all the way over to the last column where 12 plus hours of attendance as you can see there we are at 40% in terms of our persistence rate now if you compare that to the rest of the the adult schools in our division and there's 11 of us um we're ahead of the game we're doing really great so that tells me that we're off to a strong start students I just want to encourage you to keep up the pace throughout the duration of the term because we are trying to achieve a 76 uh percentage rate in terms of our persistence this year last year we hit hit 73 but our our division is asking that the schools work very hard to strengthen attendance by at least 3 more percent and that's not a lot to ask if you think about 76% of our students are coming regularly that still means that we've got quite a few that are not coming regularly and there's room for improvement so together we can do this let's achieve this as a school team the next thing I want to show is a little PowerPoint that the division put together and it's just welcoming you back to the school year it's thanking all of our students our teachers our advisors administrators and classified members for an incredible year of success with the adult in and here's just some stats we're serving over 76,000 students that's a 21% increase from pre-pandemic times we're also um achieving the persistence rate that I mentioned a division of 73.8% um our school was right about at that point so we did match the division in terms of persistence learning gains were up by 14% last year which is amazing so that means student are really learning and they're learning even better than they did last year and then finally I just want to put um this funnel slide up here letting you know that um as we enter the new school year we want to keep our students at the center of our work and these are our promises the community that we will offer safe and safe uh Sanctuary environments here at our schools Supportive Services high-quality instruction and engagement and Outreach and then finally I'm going to go back here I see that I only 31 more seconds I want to mention that there are 2 wonderful resources for students as well as staff regarding mental health please keep in mind that the physical body is important but you also need to be take care of your mental health on the website under the students um if you click on students the first button student support resources that will lead you to the mental health resources and teachers I will send you yours as well have
