Hi everyone this is principal McCarthy with the North Valley Occupational Center video update for the week of August 25th 2025 so I want to start by reminding everybody that we sent out flyers regarding the division the LAUSD division of Adult Career Education annual career Expo. This is a huge annual event where we showcase all of our wonderful Career Technical education programs this event is going to be happening um September 13th on Saturday and it will be open to the public. Now we are also doing this event on Friday but that is only open for high school students and I understand that they will be bussed in. The LA career Expo highlighting all of our wonderful career tech ed programs will be at a new location this year it will be at a place called The Beehive and they are asking that you RSVP by scanning the QR code so they have a sense of how many people are going to attend and it's Saturday September 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 am to noon so this is really an exciting opportunity to see demonstrations and um different types of materials and meet teachers and meet students both current and former to talk to them about their experiences and get yourself registered for a Career Technical education program that can lead to a fabulous job with excellence salary and benefits to take care of yourself and your family into the future so please attend an RSVP for the LAUSD division of Adult Career Education annual La career Expo I'll send these flyers out again both in English and Spanish to your teachers then um going back to the video screen here I want to show you some enrollment data because we love to take a look at our data and if we uh look at this this is run on August 25th if we go down to the North Valley Line and we followed across we'll see you'll see that other than our Virtual Academy North Valley is doing quite well um entering into the new year we are the 1 school that is up in enrollment granted it's only 7% but we're excited that we are up in enrollment now what's bringing this up in enrollment clearly our adult basic Ed that's our math and our reading and all of those programs we have a lot of enrollment in that so there's a great being in the community as well as our Career Technical education then the other piece of persist uh data I want to share is persistence now persistence again students for those of you that are new persistence refers to students attending regularly coming to their classes on a regular basis now what if if we look at the North Valley Line I'm just going to take you all the way over here to the last columns in green if a student has has achieved 12 or more hours of attendance so anything 12 or more then that student is counted as a persist that means they have good attendance right so already you can see that we're hitting 44.4% now it is the very very second week whole week of school so don't panic our goal is to get every student coming to school so that we are up at at least 76% by the end of the school year and we want to achieve that way before June of next year so let's work on that together and do this as a team all right last pieces of information let me just move over to the North Valley um website here is a nice backdrop so again um my video updates are always listed here if you missed them you can click on that if you need a live scheduled classes it's available here and then any information about our programs you can just click and get additional information and students don't forget we have lots of resources under the student tab now um did want to make a big announcement they're not quite ready but very soon we will have the new codes for the Metro tap cards a lot of you students have been asking me about those and yes once we activate and get those codes which will be very soon I'll let you know when it's minutes ago um you will be able to use those new table cards all the way through September of next year 2026 then teachers I want to remind you that we will be starting instructional rounds again uh teachers will be notified and teams will be assembled so that we can start visiting and observing our classes to strengthen our instructional practices and then finally employees please remember that if you have been rostered for an evaluation you should be in the new uh in the system starting to create your initial planning sheet for your meetings with your administrators and then finally I want to wish you all a wonderful week take care
