hello everyone this is principal McCarthy with the video update for the week of November 18th 2024 for North Valley and as usual we're going to start with taking a peek at data so as of the report run on the 7 18 North Valley is at um 428058 students and our persistence our attendance rate is averaging 71.8% so again I want to remind everybody that persistence and coming every day to class is important to achieve your educational and career goals in a timely manner and then uh also wanted to just point out that we are doing great as compared to the same time last year with our enrollment at 16.2 % higher than it was at the same time last year so we're doing fabulously in those areas um next item I wanted to point out for our um staff is that we do have the mandatory substance abuse fentanyl training that is do today please watch that video and click on the email link sent by Miss Ramirez certifying that you have completed that mandatory training that is due today the 20th also I wanted to thank our instructional rounds teams for visiting Renaldi this week we had a wonderful visit there thank you to the team that visited the classes and thank you to all 4 of our ESL instructors that um allowed us to visit them um I will be sharing highlights of our visit with School Community when we return after the fall break and then finally I wanted to remind students um if you're interested in Winter Academy which is coming up on December 15th 16th and 17th that is optional but this Friday is the last day for you to submit your the survey asking if you are intending to come to Winter Academy so that we can plan those instructional days for you and also students have a little resource for you let me go ahead and click on this um this is happening tonight and tomorrow but I did want to share it all attached this in my email for your teachers but tonight um in English and then tomorrow in Spanish the public health department is having a nutritional communities web our front our that'll give you an opportunity to learn about nutrition and physical activity and this is especially important if your parents so great free resources to take advantage of all right next item that I did want to remind everybody of had several incidents of students on campus um selling food drink raffle tickets other non-food items please know that this is against District policy um teachers and staff please remind students that this is not acceptable please do not promote this type of activity on our campuses or in your classrooms uh if a student is engaging in this activity They will receive a warning and more than likely be put on a behavioral contract by our Administration if there is a second violation and that will be considered non-compliance with School District staff of the student does run the risk of being terminated from our programs so please it is very important all fundraising all selling of um type of items on campus um any of those activities and also any type of holiday or special events need to be approved in advance by the principal so please run those items by me um in advance I need a week plus notice but again there is to be no selling of items on campus without approval in advance um and in most cases uh students selling items is completely prohibited by District policy all right uh finally I want to uh mention that there will be the career Expo coming up in the spring remember that we had a huge division-wide career Expo uh last year that was the first 1 and they are planning on having add in the spring so as we get more information I'll be happy to share that with our school community also some good news on the high school equivalency front um apparently the great news is they will be starting to test 17 year olds with a special waiver so that's important for our students that are 17 and are eligible and ready to take the high school equivalency exam please check with our academic program for more information and then finally I wanted to let everyone know there is a email that went out today from our office manager Miss Moore we will be having a schoolwide winter social on December 5th which is a Thursday and so we would like to ask if you could RSVP we would like our campuses to join us for that winter social and then finally I want to wish our students and staff and our community a wonderful fall break please be safe and we'll see you back when classes resume on December 2nd
