good evening everyone this is principal McCarthy with the North Valley Occupational Center and this is the video for the week of February 10th 2025 um happy Valentine's Day in advance for all of you that will be celebrating this Friday in 14th um this is just so amazing I cannot believe we are in quarter 3 of the school year so 1 more quarter to go and we'll be wrapping up another school year but um what I wanted to do was start with um just letting our teachers know that you will have received an email this evening from me with the Matrix for the 2526 school year that is the assignments that we tentatively hope uh to offer for next school year so uh my AP is that we couldn't get that out by 5 oclock but we were waiting for approval um from central office to post so we sent that via email tonight and you know that you'll have 2 weeks to look at that and make your selection on your preference forms and those are due back uh in 2 weeks uh by the 24th of February so uh we will also be posting hard copies of those that all of the branch locations in the morning okay um next I wanted to share with our students and staff and this Wednesday we're going to be doing a 20 minute session just a little training session on the initiative that I've been talking about uh quite a bit and that is the we are 1 initiative and um we'll be going through particular PowerPoint in more detail but I just wanted to include this on the video a little bit of the key slides um we are 1 is the initiative that the school district has started to provide our immigrant students and Families uh resources information and services to support them as we move through uh the various different changes in the new uh Federal Administration so uh we are 1 as the name of the campaign and I'm just going to give you a little background information see if I can get myself out of the way here okay so first of all there was a board resolution in 2024 uh letting our students and staff in the communities know that we are considered a sanctuary District in other words a safe zone for our immigrant uh students and families and we do have specific protocols regarding uh responding to immigration Personnel if they were to come to our campuses as you know we've been passing out the what we call the red cards which has information on how students immigrant students and families can respond if needed um and then we will also be providing resources and again I'm just showing this because um California law for public schools does include some key legal factors 1 of which is the non-discrimination information myself over here sorry and then the safe School environment information as well as confidentiality of Student Records which La unified does respect uh we will not be releasing Student Records uh to any law enforcement agencies including ice that may come to our campuses we cannot release that information to anyone unless we have a court ordered subpoena so please be aware of that um I'm not going to go into the protocols at this point but I am going to skip down and uh show you a few resources here's some District resources that I did want to make everyone aware of uh the school enrollment placement is assessment centers you can read this for yourself this does provide all kinds of information here is the website that you can go to you if you want more and then there are extended support sites that will also be available as far as Community Resources go ahead and click on this um the 1 that I want to show you right now uh is actually this 1 uh Immigration Services is available through Cal new and uh we also have the Mental Health Resource Cal hope line as well as our suicide and crisis life uh Lifeline uh that offers multiple languages and services and then finally um I wanted to also um provide this information actually I'm going to skip that sorry that's for schools but I wanted to show you that there is a region South um in-person session available for students and families that would like to to attend but we will continue to provide more and more resources to our students as we progress and then staff and students please know that this Wednesday morning as well as Wednesday night we will be doing this complete training for you on zoom and then have some in-person options going on at the same time okay um so I wanted to share that with all of you and then finally um I do want to wish you a great week I will be on vacation next week so I'll see you when I return take care
