okay so welcome everybody to the uh Google slides for your daily lesson plan part 2 workshop with ESL instructor Natalie panitia uh Natalie I'm going to just hand it right over to you and you can get started welcome everyone um I'm gonna just do the link to the sign-in sheet sign not seeing sign-in form just 1 more time okay um hello everybody so I'm gonna go ahead and get started and I've got my presentation here I'm going to share my screen Mr Bakin you need to relinquish control so I can share my screen thank you so welcome to Google slides part 2 today's January 17th it's Friday congratulations for making it to Friday and I appreciate your being here it's hard to go to a training after a PLC let alone on the weekends of a 3-day weekend so it's awesome that you're here uh before we really get going um I like and for everyone to introduce themselves um because I'm going to be uh asking you know you know with about your experience with Google Slides so let me actually just add that to this slide as well I'd like you each to introduce yourself tell me your name um what type of instructor you are uh what you teach and at which sites can send that familiar with everybody here um and then also could you um please tell me on on a scale of 1 to 3 um how experienced with Google slides are you uh with 1 being totally in experienced and 3 being very experienced so I'm going to put this slide back up we can all see all all start my name is Natalie I teach English as a second language um I teach the lower levels 1 and 2 I teach at North Valley in the evening but I teach at Renaldi Adult Center in the morning on a scale of 1 to 3 I am a 3 I'm very experienced with Google slides that them every day it's how I prefer to present to my students and I love that students can open the presentations simultaneously during class I love that they can open presentations at home um students can a little bit more on top of classes when they can't come because they have uh the ability to look at those presentations at home when they can't come to class and to review and practice and um it's been I like using it I like it for that reason so um let's go to um who can I call Out Mr Wheeler can you introduce yourself please hello my name is uh Mr Wheeler like the wheels on the bus I teach uh uh ESL 1 a b 2 a here at North Valley Occupational Center and a East Valley East Valley Skill Center um I use Google are you are you Google Slides here and there not a lot so would you say you're a 1 or a 2 um 2 oh I didn't even I put that in the chat but I didn't there it is I press enter that's all right you can just tell us when you introduce yourself yeah can you choose somebody to popcorn to Mr Wheeler yeah it's uh Steve Spencer Mr Spencer Takaki can you please unmute Mr Takaki and introduce yourself yeah I'm Spencer Takaki I've been with North Valley Occupational Center since 1974 and this is my family my home from DLC what do you teach Mr Takaki what do you teach I'm out of Aaron too I got a problem when I'm getting too old what what do you teach what classes I teach um bookkeeping and accounting okay and scale of 1 to 3 how experienced are you with Google Slides 1 2 or 3 I worked as an accountant for this uh hello signal version 500 company we're all working there I've been teaching too so part time at night and so forth so Mr teaki on a scale of 1 to 3 how experienced with Google SL sides are you 1 2 or 3 you're very experienced yeah you know for me what had happened I'm tired and I'm rehired as a substitute so when I retired I I don't think that I you know be around much longer and that was like 10 years ago so I when they when we got to the computerized programs I don't like to zoom and so forth and all that I didn't bother to say yeah you know I gotta really focus on learning all that stuff because I'm not going to be here very much longer so I didn't keep up with the with the trend like rip and Winkle I woke up and I said oh my God what's going on and that's why I know I'm not talking trying to kind of get an idea of what's Happening so I think I think you mean to say that you're probably a number 1 on the scale I got you I got you Mr tacky can you please remember 3 is 3 right no nothing no other way yeah oh no I guess I'm Number 1 I I know nothing I'm trying to learn something right great can you please choose another person to introduce themselves also I got a list of uh students uh so let me just kind of randomly pick a name let's see if I can find it okay well say name here how about the Mr wheel Mr Wheeler went before you can you choose another person please okay how about this reset okay thank you hello uh I am a registered nurse for teaching the I mean the VN program the North Valley Occupational Center uh my I don't think I've ever used a Google Slides so I'm at the zero but I have other PowerPoints uh and I'm actually trying to use canva uh for for for slides so yeah I mean whichever you prefer they're all pretty comparable you just finally be like yeah but I want to learn Google Slides thank you could you please the participant Miss Hera hi my name is Joy vinera you can just call me uh Joy this is my second week at North Valley Occupational Center I am the new uh vocational nursing program director in terms of my experience with uh using Google Slides it's a 1 I just saw this when my students from my previous work presented during our leadership class uh so I don't know anything about this and I'm interested to learn wow very exciting welcome welcome to North Valley thank you can you please uh choose another participant to introduce themselves yeah I would choose who's uh divine galingan hi Miss Sarah hi everyone uh my name is divine galingan I'm 1 of the LVN instructors here in North Valley Occupational Center um what's my experience with Google Slides is uh I can say it's a 1 although I feel like it's a 1.2 now or 1.5 since my last attendance in Miss pagnes meeting all right and then I'm choosing somebody else right yes please all right for Miss Sandra Ramirez hello everyone my name is Sandra Ramirez I am 1 of the um Step teachers at uh North Valley Occupational Center and um so my experience with using Google Slides would be probably a 2 I know about them I use them a little bit but I'm not an expert on them so I'll put myself as a as a you know level 2 um do do you present to students step yes I I do present but uh mainly once the presentation is done um I don't often go and modify that presentation so so that's when I need that refresher again so it's like the practice of using slides is what I what what I need to do you know just constantly refreshing and so it takes me a while it takes me a while to relearn not relearn but we practice it but I'm aware and I use them but I don't use them as frequently as I would like to and feel as comfortable with them absolutely okay so next person that I would like to invite is Mr Jones that's perfect because aside from saying I'm Christopher Jones and I'm East Valley Skill Center I do step ESL at night I just would put quotation marks under what Sandra said uh level I'd be a 2 because I'm aware of them I do use them but not quite often and Refreshers are great so Sandra couldn't have said it better um thank you and then uh next we see Sophia Vergara is she here uh no I don't see her she didn't come today so all right who who hasn't spoken Mr Flores Mr Flores and we have Miss cuso I don't know why oh I don't see her here but okay I'll see Miss Miss cuso but uh Mr Flores is ALS helpful because the step is not just uh the orientation part but it uh the the Casas testing is tied into steps so thank you to Mr Flores and the the whole office over there um so if he's on mute is susette go there do you want to become close to the owl you can switch your chair close and okay the owl you're on camera now so yeah oh yeah just where you are okay all right well hello my name is susette Caso I teach a level 2A at Rinaldi and a 456 at Rinaldi and then a 2B at North Valley Occupational Center um I would say I'm a 2 and uh ditto to miss um not a M's comments I've made present I have made they call that presentation using Google slides and I like it but I do appreciate Refreshers and I don't use it very often in my class thank you great last chance to introduce yourself we got some tech problems going on okay great thank you so much for sharing that really helps me uh give me an idea of what we should do in our presentation today um so please feel free to stop me and interrupt me um if you'd like to request additional um information or how ask me how to do something um or additional time practice a technique because um it sounds like everyone's sort of a 1 or a 2 This Is A Part 2 so um we'll see how much new information we get to it sounds like folks want to sort of revisit the basics um so I'm going to walk us through the basics and but please again feel free to stop me ask questions ask for something for anything specific feel free um yeah Mr Becky um miss punisha my your use of Google slide to uh run that whole entire orientation period be like an example of what you're trying to uh teach today my gosh yes maybe you noticed that we just did a discussion ourselves we did a popcorn and I had the instructions on a slide that you could reference and while you were speaking so that's nice you can simply write it on a whiteboard but you know it's here on the slides embedded All In 1 place nice and cohesive yes Mr Buck has been points everything we're doing today I'm going to give myself a pat on the back it's hard to realize while you're in a training the in um in your bus or it with your program um all right so let's go to the next 1 um we in this day and age of instruction social and emotional um awareness is very important um and I always do a social emotional check in with my students at the beginning of every class um I because I teach English uh I have my students ask each other how they are feeling today and I have a bunch of different emojis and they can answer practicing their English and can identify how they're feeling and I have a short dialogue um but for any class it's a good idea to just have a moment for students to check in with themselves this is 1 that I found that is um different color zones um so it's good for ESL students but also good for any class you know you can just identify what color zone are you in today we can see in the Blue Zone these are kind of some emotions that you might uh associate with blue sad sick tired bored I'm sluggish you know I'm moving slowly um the green zone is Happy calm feeling okay you focused ready to learn ready to go yellow uh what do you how would can we categorize yellow what do you guys seen thanks no idea are you see anxiety yeah I also see excited why are those both in a yellow zone what is yellow pause the pause pause what's going on yeah I think the yellow zone is I have a little bit um wonky yellow is a little bit maybe a little over here a little bit over there we've got frustrated worried you're silly you're excited you're a little out of control you're yellow let's pause um how about the Red Zone oh red is Extreme mad or oh interesting elated why is that in the red zone and not the green zone I'm going to repeat the question why is elated in the red zone and not the green zone maybe too much dopamine dopamine yeah totally I love the nurses answered yes we got the science um it's it's it's too much so much joy that you're out of control that's interesting um so can um feel free to uh chime in unmute or or text in the chat what zone you're in today I'm sort of in the blue and green zone I think I'm green with a little bit of blue I'm a little tired I got my coffee anybody else want to share we got some green blue and yellow Miss gazelle with zone are you in food coma oh you did I did okay great oh perfect I think we're all green green or blue I love it great let me show you another social emotional check-in this is especially great if you're on Zoom um for any reason and so we've got a scale here of zero to 10 zero is I'm in a good space and can focus 5 is something is bothering me but I can still Focus so your attention is is drawn to something else you're a little preoccupied number 10 is I can't manage my emotions or behaviors right now I cannot focus so let's tune in to where we are mentally in terms of this training and you can be honest and just it's all right wherever you're at it's fine um if I'm checking in with myself I'm probably probably in a 2 or 3 I would say I'm here I'm focused but just to be honest I'm not at a zero its oh wow we got 2.53 okay we're all I think we're all feeling the 3 we're all here uh but you know that the weekend is calling maybe just a little bit Mr Bakin did you want to say something else I see the hand is raised represent from before yes I I think I probably speak for others uh and asking you if you're going to make some of these slides or all of them available perhaps should be um to the schooly course because these are nice graphics yeah definitely I'm gonna send the P I'm gonna link that this presentation in the folder that you showed us earlier totally um and then 1 final social emotional check-in activity this is a video on YouTube from Tom which is a very popular meditation app I'm just going to play it a little bit its box breathing it's um if you don't know don't works if you don't know what box breathing is its when you breathe in hold breathe out and hold and it's supposed to be 1 of the most calming meditative practices um so this video might be good to play uh when students are stressed something stressful is happening like I don't know if buyers nearby for a test um so I'm going to play just a you know a few seconds of so feel free to join in if you'd like that was nice I feel a little more present um so great little resource or if you're interested no I'd like to go to my next slide so now that we've done our social emotional check-ins which I recommend that you do at the beginning of your classes or maybe I don't know with step you can say hey everybody how are you you can't do some sort of check-in First Step as well let's look at our agenda today we're gonna review the techniques from the first training originally I had wanted to do maybe breakout rooms because this is a part 2 and so I was hoping that maybe different groups could practice the techniques from the first training but I'm getting the feeling that maybe we all want to stay 1 group and review this techniques together um and then if we have time uh slides has a brand new update that it I think this changed the day after that presented uh the first training they have templates now which is different so the templates are actually targeted to the type of presentation that you want to give and with their own sort of colorful um them and layouts um you know targeted view that specific type of presentation um so you may prefer to do that um personally I will probably stick to just what I know but if you like it go for it we'll we'll take a look at those if we've got time um then um I would the last objective if if we get to it is for you to create a Google Slides deck um with templates and then I have a number of slides that I'd like each participant to create so you can get an idea of what teaching a lesson might feel like um with those different types of slid um or if you see a template that you like you maybe want to create just an activity with those templates and not really a full lesson well I'll if we get I'll show you what I mean when we get to that so let's go ahead go ahead and review the techniques from the first training um anybody who came to the to the training before do you recall any of the techniques that we learned anything that we learned do you remember what do you remember well it's you open I don't know what the technology you um which is why you a drive yes and this is to create a presentation is that right you start from Google Drive and we have to go to and then you create your Google Slides yeah right and then you slide and then you you have to start with first 1 is uh you pick a slide which is that it's already preset it's a template right and then after that there's some people down to the bottom of the screen there's a place where you could choose blank aha alright I just right so miss Cass is referring to layouts like yeah there are different layouts for the different um slides uh Miss I have I was trying to remember the pronunciation of your last name getting done is that right getting done yes yes um I remember my takeaway from your last presentation was creating or adding the QR code the QR code awesome that was very good well we can review that as as well if any was interested we created we learned how to create a QR code and insert it into the Google Slides presentation inserting images inserting images we talked about yeah so putting your image in front of the in the middle of the QR code like what Mr bakim does yeah we we tried something fun and new where we actually inserted a QR code and then we inserted our own image over the QR code and the middle of it to customize it very cool so here's my list of techniques that we uh went over before that we I'm happy to go over again if we need um the first thing is you need to create a Google Slides presentation from Google Drive and then um we should create different slides using a different layouts that Miss Caso mentioned and so um here's just an a a suggestion as maybe create 3 3 slides with 3 different layouts so you can practice changing those layouts and then uh we can change the theme change the overall theme of the presentation so in order to do that I recommend that you test out at least 2 different themes see how those slides change and we can choose the theme want to stick with uh we talked about inserting an image uh something else that we practiced was how to animate a text box and make the text in the text box up here find my line as you can see um that I'm doing with this slide uh you can animate any object on a on a slide and you can add elements of appearing disappearing moving go for all that but I do like to control what when text appears and so I like to animate text boxes and make each line appear 1 by 1 we talked about that in the last presentation we talked about adding a hyperlink um this is pretty uh prolific I see you know hyperlinks and emails um everywhere it's pretty common um so uh but I'm I'm not sure if maybe everybody knows how to do this already or not but you can definitely yeah we can review absolutely will review it um but it's when you have um text that is linked and you don't have to paste a whole URL you can uh control the text itself to make it clickable to a link and then the last thing we practiced was inserting a QR code inserting a QR code um so another technique that we can do that you can do with your students to promote engagement is I'd like you all to tell me which techniques you're most interested in reviewing I think it seems like everybody does want to review each of these but I'd like to know what you're most interested in reviewing maybe choose 2 2 or 3 and the way that we can do that we are on Zoom hopefully everyone's pretty familiar with soon you can go to your tools for um zoom and choose annotate when you have annotate and then we can choose a stamp and you can use a star or you can draw like that so can you please star bill or 3 2 or 3 of the techniques that you're most interested in reviewing or learning feel free to use a stamp Circle I see Mr Flores thank you oh wait you know what is Mr Flores is that m c oh well I'm I'm I'm here I'm doing it why not great and so you can sort of modify this in your classes as well maybe students can hold up a finger or um you can always do a force Square what else can students do to share their they can all raise their hand okay cool awesome thank you for participating everybody let's go ahead and we are going to start at the beginning because we got to start somewhere we got to make sure we start start off right um so the first thing that we need to do is when you're creating a Google Slides presentation it's really really helpful to uh create to have your Google Slides presentation or organized from the get-go um so I always recommend whenever you're making any Google tool or you know Google slide Google doc uh Google sheet that you created from Google Drive so you need to go to your Google Drive you need to sign in to your school email address and then you need to create the Google Slides presentation from there so let's go ahead and do that I'm gonna I am in Google um Mr bikini look at oh oh I got it never mind we're gonna go to Google and then I'm going to go to google.com we're going to sign in we're going to sign in with your school account you don't want to put stuff in your personal account I don't think um you have also have a lot more storage in your school account and then here oh there's here's my drive it's so crazy there's so many things that are all disorganized because I didn't start out uh organizing my all my materials I didn't learn to later um so I recommend you create your folders where you want your materials to live for you to create any before you create them so let's see I'm trying to remember where I put where I put here this is the folder I created it's the last training I recommend you create a folder whenever you create something and then go into your folder and from here create your Google Slides presentation like so you don't want to create a Google Slides presentation and then organize it later it can get messy you might you might have a hard time finding it okay everyone done that does everyone want to do that hello Mr Talmer I'm hoping that everyone has gotten to their Google Drive created a folder for the presentation and then created the presentation within that folder I'm going to go ahead and refresh oh it's not there let me test it there we go it appears after I named it all right I don't know if that was too fast or maybe just fine is everybody with me yeah how do you put our Google slide in the folder I I think I missed that oh sure yeah so are you here you see your own Google Drive on your computer yes perfect so from here I recommend creating folders um for your materials before you create them oh so I'm gonna have to go here to the plus go to new and then click new folder I see so I'll go ahead and do that what we're going to say Google Slides practice um and then I'm going to put the date I see okay thank you yeah absolutely absolutely and then we've got the folder double click the folder and now we're here we are in we are in the folder information when you create a new folder does it automatically go to the bottom it's yeah it's well it's automatically going to be at least for me for my Google Drive I have it so that my folders are on top of my loose documents oh yeah okay thank you um you can also yeah okay so it'll be showing up where those folders are so make sure that you are in the folder and from here we're going to click plus new and we're going to create that Google slide presentation and then let's name name our new presentation I'm gonna say practice 1 171 Barry did you want to explain the the comment you just put in the chat are you had to unmute and I my window was uh below the bottom of the monitor so I couldn't see the unmute sign um I'm pretty sure it's for everybody and I I don't know if it was a setting that I created but when I create a new folder it automatically drops into alphabetical order so these are all the other thing I should just throw out to you is there is no question you know we all remember the I I muted Mr chmer yeah um and if you're if you're ever having trouble you can always click here um and this will organize everything alphabet Lie by name and something I do sometimes is I click last modify here because then I'll find what I've been working on or opened most recently right and if we do recall 1 of the things that Google of course has been famous for since the beginning is searching and so uh even if you um temporarily fall short in your own organization by creating folders the search bar up and top can usually help you find um the folder if you don't if you miss it if you're if you're not finding it right away or an individual document that you didn't put in a folder my my issue with that is there's a couple of things 1 I don't always remember what I've named it and 2 a lot of the times my materials will have the same name because I will create the same lesson or the same activity every class that I have um so it really it's really important for me that I have that I'm really organized by trimester by class and then by week so that every you know everything I have I can find again yeah absolutely an organizational plan is certainly very very helpful but I'm I am just saying if you still can't find something uh I suggest trying out the the search as the last resort definitely definitely um okay great so we have all created yes yay and anybody need any help Mr wheelers on it okay let me go back to my presentation so this is what we've done we've created a Google Slides presentation from Google Drive the next item is number 2 create 3 different slides with 3 different layouts so can anybody tell me how I'm going to create a new slide and also I'm going to close this because that's distracting me would anyone like to go ahead and tell me how can I create a new slide oh I remember because I like the clear that it was something on the left ah down and I can't I'm seeing a little arrow here right so first um this is so this has actually changed from the last training I gave uh so the first thing we need to talk about is how to create a new slide so this is my title slide title right date January 17th how how do I create a new slide file new yes that plus sign thank you so this easiest way is to click this little plus we're yeah click that so when you click the plus it'll automatically give you this slide where you have a title and you have a text box and now every time you click plus if you're going to get a repeat of the previous slide yes so Auto automatically Google Slides will always give you a title card for your first slide when you create a new slide it's going to always give you this slide which is just the title and a big text box and then when I click the plus again it's going to give me a repeat of this previous right um slide but how do we change it how do we change it so you're referring to this there was something really helpful that was here before Miss cuso guess what it's gone it's gone and I'm sad so and now we have to um click here actually it's just as easy we can click this but this button click this thing click this word layout okay we're you can open your presentation again you can double that's yeah open it the that 1 yeah double click there you go so let's go to the go to the third slide that you have Miss Cass yeah and then find the word layout um and the gray box underneath those yeah thank you so it has moved its now on the right hand side but you know it's still handy like the word layout and we can change so let's create 3 slides with 3 different layouts and you'll notice when you create a new slide it's going to be a copy of the layout used in the previous slide um I'm going to do this 1 that looks fun and I I suggest that you put something in each box so let's just say example example example I know I'm just very I'm very creative example all right this is give you a little time to create some different slides with 3 different types of layouts yeah but something in each text box does anybody have any questions at this point I love looking at the at some of our participants and everyone's there engaged great yeah but number 3 I I clipped the layout you would have it in a selected 2 columns okay okay great you see let's do 1 more slide okay that's going to change the layout of the current slide what are Google Slides I'm sorry did you have a question Mr tacky yes what is your question so let's just say are you changed the layout of that slide so those those texts yes why don't you go ahead and just do undo to hit the undo button this is okay because it's blank what yeah I I recommend that you find the undo back arrow oh there's create a Google slide so that it's like undo again there you go now you've got that 2 Box okay slide again now to go to another you I click the Plus for a new a new slide uh Mr Tikki you have to start at Google Drive and then you're going to click new put this Plus and then create the Google Slides presentation is everybody half slides with different layouts anybody have you got it yeah Mr sale looks great maybe I'm getting better at the train well maybe I'm getting so all right let's go back to my presentation here so as you can see our technique number 2 was create 3 SL with 3 different layouts so we've got this guy the plus we create the new slide and then we click layout and here you can change the layout of the different slides let's move on to number 3 I would like need to test out some of the different things take a look and see how it changes um the different slides you've created and find a theme that you like the way we're going to do that is maybe you noticed to the right of layout is so you're gonna click beam and it's gonna open up this menu a bunch of different themes so try them out and you'll see how these different slides are going to change yeah because you're changing the theme so if you click theme to the right of layout and you'll see how each of these slides are now they now look completely different and some might be better for your class more engaging for your students some are not going to be very ESL friendly like I don't know this orange color I don't know who's going to be about that maybe that's your thing the ESL students I think that might overwhelm them this is really cute but not really conducive to learning for ESL students blue and white I I always gravitate to this 1 every time which 1 I like the geometric 1 opal um I don't know why yeah quick question uh can is it possible in the same slide presentation to have different themes that's a great question I think so let's test it out I've never tried but I think you can I'm going to create 3 different slides sides we're going to do we're going to test test test and I'm going to see if I can modify I think well I don't think so I don't think we can only change 1 I think I think I would get bored at the uniformity really maybe that's just me I don't know but but look at look at all the different options we have for type every day yeah that's true or you know you might want to just instead of doing a presentation for your full lesson maybe it's only for part of your lesson keep things different but the solution yeah I noticed that the geometric on slide 1 and 2 and then slide 3 for it I don't see it but 15 um that is because in this theme um they they're pretty minimalistic okay nice okay when you ask pretty that's nice all righty okay great question Mr Wheeler all right has everyone had the opportunity to test test out a few different themes see how the slides change have you found 1 that you like why don't you um I'd love to hear from you what which theme do you like what theme did you find that you like I like to uh to mention and and Tropic tropic to where is the truck back is is there a little going on it's just pretty clear oh Tropic I see aha these are my these are my um good friends a very similar to their wedding colors they're orange and like a teal anybody else what theme do you like I'd love to hear from 1 other participant I I'd like to focus 1 okay thank you Miss Ramirez I think it was called that went focused yes oh sweet okay is leaking like kind of techy I don't know it makes me think of like Nike or Adidas or something that's a logo yeah very cool thank you Okay so we've got a handle on creating new slides um creating slides with different layouts changing the theme we see how the theme affects all of the different layouts they kind look pretty different so you're going to find 1 that you like or if you're Mr Wheeler you're going to find a bunch that you like if you like to change things up the next item the next Technique we talked about is inserting and image that's number 4 inserting an image would anyone like to tell me how we can insert an image first you have to of images to insert you have to not necessarily you might have an image you want to insert or copy and paste but there's you don't have to have an image ready to do this okay so click so the first thing that you'll want to do is figure out what slide we want to enter certain image on is it going to be a title only slide or a blank slide or a caption slide I'm going to go with the title slide and I'm going to name it insert an image check in the chat besides plus there is a template and it can change the theme yeah we're going to we're going to get to that this yes templates are a whole other ball game um which are different it's actually different from theme um we're going to get to that later in the presentation um but here over here templates are different than being there are different menus theme is going to change all the layouts and then we'll we'll get the templates later but templates are designed for a specific purpose can anybody tell me how we're going to insert an image did you did you go to 1 of those slides and so I went ahead and added a new slide oh okay and then I chose the layout title only okay that you're probably going to want to close your themes menu and then click layout to change that really that choose 1 that's going to be image friendship mhm insert yes there's actually a couple different ways there are actually a multitude of ways to to me Google is great because you can do everything from this menu you can do everything from this menu and you can do everything by right-clicking so if you just try and look for it whatever it is you want to do you'll find it um so I can uh let's see see this little icon here no oh you can choose that to insert an image or you can go from the word insert if you're more comfortable with that and just go to insert from the here are what we call this words versus icons um how did you get that on the left um we're gonna go up here where we see file edit View and insert we click insert and there's a lot of different things you can insert the picture could you do that of course we've got these options here file edit you and there oh okay yeah we're going to insert this image now you can um you you can always copy and paste an image you can upload it from the computer you can upload it from your Google drive or Google photos you can take a picture right here right here now you can uh Poppy and paste the URL but these 2 are going to be pretty handy if you don't have images prepared you can search Google from here or you can add gifts Mr Wheeler you're going to love that you can add a bunch of gifts to keep your students engaged and entertained so let's try search the web I'm just going to click away so we can go back into it we're going to go to insert so that going to be the fourth word here at the top file edit view insert going to go to image and I'm not going to upload from my computer I'm going to search web well should we search for let's look up Martin Luther King because Martin Luther King days is upon us yeah all flowers is a good idea too let's do both I'm going to do Martin Luther King click the image it's selected we can see that by this check mark here yeah and at the bottom I see 1 selected and then I'm going to click insert and you can click insert yes just because the picture selected from that word um so do you see that you've got this menu open that you're interacting with yeah so we've selected this image but I can oh I can select multiple images uh oh and we only want the 1 yeah and then we're going to click down here underneath it insert oh oh I see what's happening um your Zoom video is covering it up so we got to move see this little window here this is the zoom so we got it yeah there we go we're gonna insert that image let's do flat hours in sir image search the web flowers do this 1 select it you can also click this little preview image icon you want to take a closer look at it you can picker I'm gonna go ahead and click insert here oh the internet is is having a bit of a hard time let me try there we go that was easy and um feel free to move move your pictures around um you can also crop them you can put them you can change the order I might be I might be getting ahead of myself go ahead and insert those images can move them around uh oh already see what you're saying sort of done yeah some of the the Wi-Fi in here is not super duper great but you could just insert a different image some of them are working some of them are not Mr Becky um since you're working on images and I know that we also worked with hyperlinks uh last session uh but I don't remember if we or you suggested or demonstrated how you can like take that image and make the image itself a hyperlink so that like if you click on it it would go to a a Wikipedia page about a flower no if I've ever done that oh okay so just up at the top like first you'd want to um find the the link that you want to go to so like for example you would search the Martin Luther King you know page and then you know grab a link from anyone 1 of those and copy it and then go back to the PowerPoint oh this I'm sorry PowerPoint I said oh my God a slide go back to the slide okay cool and then um what I use is when you click on the slide there yeah you may have gone through that too fast I was doing it for myself okay yeah click on the slide so you yeah so you highlight the image yes and then and then this yeah use the insert link exactly cool yeah I've never thought to hyperlink um of an image but that's pretty neat um I'm also well would anyone like to would you like me to cover moving objects moving the order of objects should we cover that because that that can come up sometimes when we're we've got you know you've got text you've got images um if you want to change you know what's on top what's underneath you're gonna click in the image right click the in and go to order and then you can bring to front or send to back as needed order um the other that might come up okay if you've got pictures on top of each other okay uh something else that might come up is uh cropping the image which I'm sure we all have experience with maybe I'm not so sure but you can crop an managed by selecting it yeah you're right you're right you just you can always select an image and here's that handy icon just when I'm thinking I want to crop this image it's up here in our icons menu you can crop the image and then I'm going to enter and there we go I'm actually going to make this bigger make it really big and then I'm going to put Martin Luther King in the middle of the flower there we go I can send it to the bus uh oh I can send this picture to the back there we go hello thank you for doing that yeah all right see is there anything else that we want to talk about in terms of images would you like me to cover how to um animate the images so that maybe you can have 1 up here and then another let me let me show you what I mean and then we can slow it down perhaps um so we are going to select an image oh I selected this text box because I sent this image to the back so you got to be careful make sure you're you have selected the item that you want um so I'm selecting this image and then I'm going to go to these 3 Dots here to expand the menu and I'm going to click animate and now we have this new menu on the right hand side called motion and it's going to uh allow you to manipulate the elements within the slide so now it's going to appear on a clip so let's go ahead and and click play so I can show you what I mean here's our slide insert an image I've got Martin Luther King Jr and then I click and the image appears on a click now let's say I also want to animate Martin Luther King to appear afterwards I'm going to stop I need to select the image now I have this object selected and I'm going to add the animation here so it is going to appear on the next clip and it will appear after here's the sequence first the then Martin Luther King but let's go ahead and play see how that goes here I've got my slide in certain image I click the flower appears next Martin Luther King appears dog I'm gonna stop that preview and you can there's a lot of different effects here that you can choose from if you'd like you can also control if you want something to appear after something with the previous object or if you want it to just change when you click here there's no need to change these if you don't want to do something if you don't want to while we're here uh please stop me if this is too much information but while we're here we can change the transition between slides if that's something you're interested in we don't have to okay let's go back okay okay we're good let's let's keep going let's keep going unless anybody has some something to say to ask about inserting images changing the order manipulating them nope okay and uh the next thing I wanted to talk about before we get to the hyperlink is uh uh also having to do with animation uh like I said before I really like when I can show reveal text line by line so I'm going to just again remind you what that looks like you're the techniques from the previous training and then line by line the text is going to appear very useful maybe you have questions and answers or you know a prompt out and then examples or if you just want to you know lead students through something so to do that here is a a guide you're gonna go first you have to click a text box well maybe you need the text box and you need the text right the different lines of text look you know what let's go ahead and do that first so all right let's create a new slide how do we create a new slide we do plus plus and then I need to change the layout how do I change the layout uh um I think Mr you'll probably have to close whatever menus open I'm sorry that's me go go back it's all right go back to this 1 you can't really there you go okay okay so we gotta click layout if you're not able to find layout it might it's probably because you have a menu open and this sort of cut down so you can just close that click layout change the slide and then change the title and then we're going to have have create several lines of text because we want the different lines of text to appear 1 by 1 okay you can always click layout to change it um for this I usually like to do the title and body slide okay um that's my go-to okay typing and you're going to create several different lines of this yes oh in in the second box hello yes create 3 or 4 different lines of text okay great well yeah because everybody wanted to review some of those techniques just what what what did you do today sure that's gonna be at what time all right 5 minutes at what 2 we finished it 250 it's oh yeah or or do you plan to stay here all the way through holiday let's we don't see here for hours I want to stay here I did a Q&A yeah okay great the past tense of past tense that was Mr Becky very finally telling me what time it is so we're gonna click that text box okay left click or right click you just got to select it because we're gonna we're gonna modify it okay so not that 1 right yeah that 1 select text box you guys are both in the morning and then at the top we see all these things that have to do with the text box we're gonna click more going to click more and then we're going to click animate okay and then that's going to give us the same same options that we played around with for inserting the image okay so we're here selected it's going this text box will now appear on the clip we want to select this option by paragraph and now the text in that paragraph it will appear 9 by line so let's test it out with play and then we'll click on the text where you click Inside the Box uh yeah just click as if you're presenting it's a preview okay yeah so that's pretty nice I like pretty good this this will help me okay where are we at it's on my top yeah so are you telling me Oh we didn't even get to the template my dad repository yes I mean people can do this this is a lot um right so if if anyone's interested you can go ahead and take a picture of this slide perhaps it's a boring just remember to go back later we we ran out of time I can't believe it um but templates is something brand new but you said mentioned it earlier it's here next to the Plus templates and all of these English are stylized and they are um created for um specific types of presentations so I've I've made a list of the ones that are most relevant to us because there are a lot here um I might have forgotten educational games no I got it okay so for teachers you can do lesson here course overview there's less in colorful I also like the options proposal here for group activities it has there's educational games science presentation guessing game Word game and for students they've got class project a book project and when you click you know 1 of these templates it has all of these 4 added slides for you or that type of um activity or that type of for that purpose for that purpose this work is that so this isn't templates oh okay it's called working oh yeah so that's so again I'm going to click templates here let me go back here's all these different types of templates there's a lot a lot a lot a lot and I've created this little guide for you mhm so you know that 1 of them is word game so let's try to find it keep it going not seeing it because there's a lot of them ah here word game going to click it there we go we're a game and you can insert all of these slides and then modify them as need be so I I I really recommend that you dive into this or if you'd like me to do a different training that's not on the mechanics of Google slides and it's just solely about templates that was my intention for today but seemed that folks wanted to review the those Basics um I'm happy to present on templates on another day if you'd like um uh Mr Bakin we didn't we ran out of time to uh go over hyperlinking and QR codes but I'm happy to help anybody with that if you want to email me directly or or whatever um so for for your presentations we didn't have time to get to this but this is sort of how I uh how I sequence my daily lesson plan emotional check-in warm-up activity title card your the days objectives for your agenda your presenting your comment your content excuse me and then you've got your different um group activities um and so Mr Becky just wanted to make me to make sure that I um gave you an idea of what the Google slides lesson would look like uh and he also asked that I present a couple examples so if you just bear with me for a moment um let's go ahead and take a look at what I did yesterday so this is my level 2B class yesterday was Thursday I had them work on an a a project and here are all my different slides so I have we start out with some basic questions and I will type on my slides as students answer that's what I like to do I like to type their answers I don't just present to them um I asked them what did you do yesterday what didn't you do yesterday I wrote down their answers here's my um social emotional check-in how are you today how was your day yesterday and then they can refer back to these um answers that they just generated as a whole group affirmative and negative in El Civics we are practicing um we're practicing soft skills and I want them to remember the different excuses they have to not um you know have to call in sick so I've got the line by line which I like um they need to practice this conversation for the ELC that it's test so I created this slide for them they're practicing this conversation I have the images for the different reason that I can reference and have them um respond to and then what I did in a different class which I did not do for this class is I can actually animate these to disappear just do that really quick and you'll see see what I mean very bare with me 1 1 moment um okay can I disappear all right so this is a conversation where the students have been practicing this every day we've been building upon it um I want them to introduce themselves so I had a student in my evening class I had different volunteers um participate in this conversation with me I said hello ABC company how can I help you they introduced themselves and then on the click it disappeared so I could reveal it to them after they said it um so they can see how close they were to the to the given response how can I help you can I speak to the supervisor so this is just 1 way that you can create you know instead of just giving them a piece of paper with this dialogue this is much more interactive the student is testing their memory they visual will help reinforce them um yeah I hope that gives you a little bit of a better idea of how using a Google slide can um make some you know uh make your lesson more effective and then I I have my title card so that was all warm up what I wanted the students to do that day was to write me an email um and so I gave them and here's the goal the goal we're going to write an email giving advice I gave them all strips of paper to put an email in the correct order and then on the next slide we went over together okay what's next what do you have at the top and what did you put for the first line and so I have it all ready to go um and then I use a Promethean so I could actually draw if they had a different opinion we could draw where we might want to move 1 of the lines because they um they were they had a different uh opinion about what the order should be which is great I said that works too um so then we identified the sequence of the email um I asked them to Circle the empathy in the email underlying the advice and then box around the past experience that the um so they're doing that on a physical paper and then I did it on the Google slide um and then I just gave them the instructions for them to write their email um option 1 option 2 and then I had my rubric for them then they can we ran out of time but ideally they'll switch their paper papers and they'll find mistakes and then they'll um you know use the rubric to evaluate each other's work um and then that was the last thing is that 1 of them is submit their email on um so anyway that is an example of what uh 1 of my less my lesson yesterday in 1 of my classes was okay I'm sorry I went so fast that's okay thank you so much uh Natalie that's I I I think there's 2 points uh that I want to emphasize 1 this is really really amazing and wonderful use of Technology uh and as a result of the work that you put in you see this is all in the schooly course so imagine then that your students having access to the this PowerPoint you know uh to review to you know look at the sentences to study uh and so that's 1 number 2 you know a lot of the stuff is reusable uh you know next semester Natalie can go back look at these slides and and reuse them uh and so the original creation uh does take time uh but that's where the long-term benefit of using some of this technology comes in is that you can reuse them in future situations uh I want to call attention to the fact that I did drop the uh evaluation link into the the chat uh so please make uh use of that evaluation link uh for um Donna and for Mr mongal I can also email you that link uh directly if you're not signed into the zoom uh I want to thank uh Natalie once again for uh agreeing to uh share her ideas and her techniques uh and again you know the best thing is just you know when you were actually looking at that uh list of her daily lesson plan you know none of those techniques are so you know Advanced uh that you can't do them you know you've learned how to do all of those things writing the text you know some things maybe make it look fans here uh but again you know just inserting texts the only thing in that whole lesson that was uh a little bit advanced was the making the were making the um the the words that covered up the sentences disappear and that was it you know everything else is just very very basic techniques that you all can can do so in any case uh on that note I will uh close the the workshop let's all thank Miss Panic once again for a great presentation uh and um you know get out there and and use Google Slides uh
