Where was the okay good afternoon today's presentation uh let me go ahead and share the agenda all my fears all the teachers that have passed off so today's present presentation is what's new at cahoot and quizzes create lessons activities and quizzes for all programs will be focusing on 2 different apps cahoot which has been around for several years now and is quite well known uh but there are always new things in development and new things that have been implemented and Idris mongal and Don Wilson uh will be talking about that and then I'm going to follow up with quizzes slightly newer program uh but has quite a bit of the uh same activities um as usual if you're online or if you are um the room uh and you can go to the uh my berries uh sandbox uh the sign-in form for the uh workshop for attendance is there but I'll also drop that link uh in the uh the chat as well let me go ahead and do that so I put the attendance uh signup sheet in the chat and also uh it is in the um the schooly course uh in my sandbox so uh without actually without further Ado I will turn over can I get here I will turn over the uh the microphone to Idris to get started so I'm going to stop sharing and go ahead e all right thank you Barry all right ladies and gentlemen welcome to uh today's PD my name is Bruce manga I'm an ESL instructor and I will be doing this workshop co-presenting with Miss Don Wilson who was a CTE computer teacher uh all right let's begin excuse me let's go all right uh today's presentation will be will be about cahoot um cahoot is a gaming app uh all across the board for kindergarten all the way up to through college um when I was a kid at 12 teacher during Co 19 I used this a lot uh it was a great way to uh to get the to get the students engaged all right uh anyways getting you acquainted and new tools um all right discover new uh features welcome to who totopia Utopia all right um celebrate class achievement and inclusive learning with Collective rewards and ctop the ultimate tool for Collaborative Learning is now available for free for all teachers all right um so creating a cahoot it's easy right um using Google Slides or PowerPoint presentation all right so this is what kahiyo looks like um take a look all right oops this is the objectives all right objectives what will our participants learn Mr uh Mr Leon and Mr um participant will learn how to quickly and easily create or borrow interactive online Cahoots games for instruction or practice any device uh by any device we mean by computer laptop iPad um and cell phone okay by the end of this session every participant will have played reviewed interactive quiz using the websites become familiar with creating 1 and know how to use it with students write objectives clear counseling objectives clear objective what we're going to learn from this yeah it's uh it's it's projected on the screen as well all right um the steps we're playing a game all right this is how students participate spin split okay using mobile phone or other device such as a tablet desktop laptop Etc who use a pager okay um next you want to open up a web browser um Safari Google any that will work um and go ahead and navigate to kahoot.it enter the game pin given by the teacher depends different that be right this is kind of what it looks like all right the kahoot app um Power users can download the kahoot app uh we're not going to do that now but just so that's an option no no okay okay that's probably what it looks like all right so enter the game pin the teachers LED participants know what the pin is it's the displayed on the classroom projection system were shared in Zoom where similar sharing program a participants entered the pin and click enter okay type in the name all right this is not be your actual name right could be a made up name right part this is a real uh into a real name or a fun name safe for school and appropriate right and click okay go there's a teacher override for occasions when an appropriate name pops up that's something new I don't even know I was there before all right the part participant sees you're in for convenience the pin number is displayed that is not the pin will be using to all right for example here we go this is the PIN you would see all right and every time the pin is different okay yeah all right so let's play a cahoots that interesting Ready Step up here all right so I will switch the view to my live screen and let loose join all right let's see all right we'll take a look all right all right we're going to go ahead and start a live session okay so participants we can uh enjoy the game what is the log on to with the rules get into the cahoot documents cahoots the who thought this you know my here it is gonna be the third oh that's all right all right thing thank you welcome all right as you can see um you have trouble getting in there's a QR code you can scan and also the game pin is displayed right on top cats I wonder who that is okay we are 1 2 3 4 so let's go ahead and start okay all right is ready on weekends I like about you huh no you have to the picture picture oh it's a picture I need a picture that's so this is an ESL so you want to look at the picture okay and answer according to the picture okay okay Samuel what does the winner get the joy of winning okay and the shower I like again look at the picture I hope you answer yes I did you okay singing right does everything in the shower no all right after school I like what do we like broad dance the computer game TV I go to sleep I just get up all right watching TV all right Mr manual I have a question um uh are we supposed to answer according to what the picture that we see or according to our um uh what we like um according to the picture oh according to the picture thank you all right let's move at parties I like to be honest okay oh this is catching up good for you you know I have the first 1 wrong that was my idea I got it wrong all right I don't like soccer singing playing tennis what I'm too slow down sorry all right all right in the afternoon I like okay in my free time I like some has the highest all right all right at home I like right when I relax I like oh loses in the lead what happened man don't worry points points are also a function of how fast you uh answer so that they may both have the same uh answer but 1 may have done it faster okay on vacation I love I don't know how I will teach you all right number 3 is Carla yeah Carla 2 L okay I'm not so close all right 1 Mr the cahoot in your thoughts yeah I actually do yeah because of you guys I was like I'm gonna make I'm yeah I'm gonna show it to you yeah yeah because I only I don't like the splash version it's like there's only limited um images right and they have to download them if I want to start an image and it's like Ah that's an extra step I'm not willing to take yet right right right and if there's any ESL uh teachers in here uh Ventures is aligned with kahoot is aligned with Ventures oh and you can you can type in Ventures and uh let's see you'll see that the content all right all right so go to cahoot.com and click sign up or sign up for free um I think most of us have an account already uh we don't that's how it is questioned Mr Miguel um do we get to um select like the um the different um activities um for instance things that are related to like the subject that we're teaching yeah yeah we're getting there uh Miss Buddha okay thank you yeah yeah I'll go yeah we're getting there and uh and there's 1 that's free and 1 that's not free and uh we'll show you how to get the free 1 all right let's move on all right uh select the teacher option obviously all right we're going to click feature um if you want to log in as a student it's possible Right to see but we don't want to do that that way we can just see what the student is looking at um like your work type so we would we would scope we would click on school right not higher education school because what part of the part of the kid to 12 all right fill out the simple form form right uh your email your password it's all your SSO right your single sign on the same thing you're used to uh your sim credentials for LAUSD to sign up to but you can write okay all right um right uh this is Braun but this is not this is not MediCal this no this is it you can do free or you can pay you can pay this is if you pay this is the current pricing right right we don't want to all right loose you want to pair know I don't care no no that's why I stick with the images you keep me you know I'm on a different page from you look at the you know just look at the screen on the top I can see the screen yeah okay an opportunity to make some extra money all right um now you want to talk more about this that make more money that's something I like to well I don't do it either but just quick so so if you want um what you can do is if you make cahoots um you can sell your Cahoots on the cahoot Marketplace um you have to get verified to do it and then I'll I'll tell you how to become a verified Creator um but you can actually make money if people buy your cahoots um so it's you can sell them from anywhere from 2.99 up to 99.99% for Teacher purchasing them so it is a way to make extra money um this is the main account page and it's got some different areas um this would just be the home area there's a discover where you can look for things there's the access pass your library which is your things reports that you can look at different groups you can have the marketplace is where you can look at another place you can look for uh buying things or finding things for free and then there's the um so we're going to look at how to um find some free games or from some free cahoots uh there's different ways you can either go to discover or you can go to Marketplace so um switch to that so I'm going to go ahead and go to the marketplace and you can see on the different Cahoots it has prices this 1's 2.99 this 1's 5.99 um some of them they find him more expensive more and at this point is 9.99 but I am a little more frugal than that my favorite price is free so I type in free and I can do a search just based on free and it'll pull up everything that's free now for our ESL teachers we could do free ESL and search and it's going to pull up different ESL Cahoots which is how we found the line that we used so there's all sorts of Cahoots that are made you don't have to create them um lots and lots of different ones that have already been made so you can just use them um if you wanted to do Ventures all you have to do is search for ventures and it's got all of the ventures Cahoots right there computer so we can find some for 5 computer things I know you might be interested in those so GCF learn free what is a computer uh e safety uh there's some good ones for resources for professionals so if you want to get things like so you want you have your students work on their communication skills uh career planning we have some career planning cahoots if you want them to learn about social media there is social media cahoots you know um and a lot of these are free so you know again for computer stuff there's what's Bitcoin chat GTP um you know so there's different categories that you can find um for you since you've got the the kids I wanted to definitely do that with them yeah with her regarding fun yeah right so instead of making them you get them already made yeah right so just free in the marketplace and there's all sorts of stuff that's available good I also like the templates that they have so I not have like a fall 1 for um my class okay so another thing that you can do now um that they've mate that's really nice if you have a presentation that you've made we have uh you can if you have if you have Google Slides you can connect your Google Slides and create Cahoots with your Google Slides I don't use Google Slides I actually use PowerPoint but you can actually create with PowerPoint so like I have this presentation that we're using today if I create a kahoot and I'm going to import the slides and I'm going to upload a file so what I'm going to do is I'm going to actually just grab this cahoot PowerPoint presentation and I'm going to drop it and it's going to import the PowerPoint that I'm using today and it's going to create a kahoot out of that PowerPoint yes Barry I can't hear you um when you borrow the or you know use a um already created cahoot uh what sort of editing capabilities can you have with that cahoot that you borrowed okay well wait till this finishes importing and then we'll we'll look at that okay so but you can see that it's pulling all the slides in exactly how they're created and it's making a cahoot out of that so if I have something that's already that I've made I don't have to recreate it just pull it in so if you create a list lesson for example first of all you can use a save on the second yeah so that's that's the thing is if you've already created Google Slides if you've already created a PowerPoint presentation they've made it so that you can just hold in but what actually makes it a cahoot well we're going to put slides in and then we can add questions we can add the slides add the questions to the slides so we can make you know we can make questions that go with the slides so we can make a presentation that um we can make it playable uh so that if we had to presentation say in Schoology where the students could play the cahoot while we weren't there with them so they could go through the presentation or we could give a presentation in the classroom and play the just like they have questions um during the we can give slides and then we can give questions based on the slides that we've just given so you would you you would intersperse a game question with the presentation yes yes so so I can add oops I can add I do stuff I do the wrong button so but you can it's a little awkward but I mean you can do it you just have to pull it in and then you pull with it um but you can use your PowerPoint it's Works a little bit easier um supposedly with the Google Slides than it does with PowerPoint I don't have Google Slides so um but that's what you can do with it and then you were asking about the if you have 1 that you have required what you can do to change it so so this is 1 that we got I can go ahead and edit so what I can do is I can do duplicate it once I duplicate it then I can edit it so that I can change things on it but some of the stuff if it has a little stars those are things you have to pay extra for so I can change picture oh sorry what do you want to explain um football yeah who's what are you interested in no I don't even know nothing about okay golf yeah sure sports right so then we can change right so we can we can't changed the original but we can duplicate it and then we can change it so we can add a pictures in duplicate so after school I like that's what you said not after after Plus how long will your naps I suffer now there you go so it's nap time so you know any of the Cahoots that you get for free they're all modifiable they don't have to keep them the way that they are there can be just simply a jumping off spot you start with them get some idea and then change some however we want you know like the pictures change the pictures that's much cuter question gentlemen I'm sorry questions question and then you have any questions 1 of the what are we trying to accomplish you do have to save it though right yeah yeah it's I had the little thing in the way so then you're gonna go ahead and see it's because some some of the you know some of the things nowadays they automatically save yeah but this this you still have to save correct yeah you have to save it so and then another thing that you can do um with is another way to get training with cahoot is to be become cahoot certified so how to make so you can um get certified and they actually have the training on cahoot so you can get on certified silver certified by the input certified um each training takes 30 minutes and it's you know they just run on and and do the training um you just have to have a teacher account to go through the training and you know they do teach you some interesting things um so it's a way to do that and it's just go to cahoot.com certified and that's right here so it's just cahoot.com certified and you just click on the get certified Now button and get 3 different badges and they give you a nice certificates I know you want at least 10 These are nice you can get your your certificates for 3 Lines on them this everybody wants um and the thing is after you get uh cahoot certified after that you can become um where you can what is it called where you can uh verify you can become verified so that she can make the Cahoots and sell the but you have to be certified first before you can become a verified so the whole process is an hour and a half for the certification through gold now would you know the price account to make to sell them they go anywhere from 299 to 9.99 cool so and depending on how they look is going to do you know determine whether or not people are going to want to you know to purchase them but people look at them and you know so and 1 thing is if you are making cahoots selling them make sure that you're not uh using anything that's not public domain right don't use pictures that are copyright don't do things that are not because they're gonna they're gonna catch it you know they want to make sure that the stuff is is is not gonna cause problems for them so make sure that what you're doing is is you know is clean and not not having anything on it that's that should be on there but there's all sorts of places where you can get images that are you know yes Barry yeah I was going to say too if you're really serious about um like selling you know money money and selling stuff maybe not use your LAUSD uh email to do that yeah but you know because 1 of the things that would happen let's say you spend 5 or 10 years you like developing all of this content and it's under your LAUSD if you're making so much money from cahoot and you decide to leave LAUSD you lose your SSO and then what happens well the thing is cahoot is separate from Laos no right but if you signed up with cahoot right the thing is it's even though you use your LAUSD account um I think you could probably switch it yeah you can change your email all you have to do is go to the account and then change your email right there in any case I'm just yeah you'd want to be careful I think yeah it's just you know I I don't know that any of us plan on doing any of that it's just it's it's the possibility is there if it's something that it could be that maybe you try it and if you find that you are doing it then switch your account because you're the 1 that gets verified without your email that gets verified I saw um when you were switching between your accounts there was something that said that LAUSD team account manager have you did you have you explored that well it's there's there's a team workspace okay the private workspace so because remember LAUSD paid for cahoot difficulty for a while that and that stopped after you were born so I have my private space that I had pre that and then there's the 19 the team 1 space so all of my stuff is in my private space yeah they they in the USD space but I think they paid for it for a while interesting maybe they do something for K through 12 and because we have the L usd.net ties it there you know 10 but like I said you know if you do the certified if there's some interesting you know videos and it shows you how to create some of the stuff so it's another way to get additional information on this um and you can watch the videos multiple times you can pause them it's a little bit hard to hear Don um with the other conversation going on can you say that again so the with the certified you can watch the videos multiple times so it's not like you can just go through once and you've done you can go through it more than 1 time so if you want to go through it watch the video pause it whatever because each section bronze silver and gold it's only half an hour I see so it gives you the ability and you can see some of the other you know some of the stuff is I don't know that is so much more us because we're dealing with adults and some of it is more little kids but you know it is interesting you know some of the what was it the batteries you can do what you want there's a new brothers I think over time they get weaker weaker to recharge them but they don't look like is that the uh oh okay go ahead sorry but then um does anyone want to try by creating a kahoot if you have a cahoot account yeah so this is an opportunity where you can create this is an opportunity where opportunity you said you wanted to to use your accounting uh yeah I think the the documents we have internal reports right this is your consultation thank you and see you guys on Friday all right kahoot while you're in class I used to because of you guys oh oh yeah I actually saved them and everything now I think I'm kind of a next time they're like instead of a quiz I was like okay let's do that yeah they love doing work like yeah the oh yeah but I have already I'm like that's right all right um so uh Idris and Don do you want to give a little time limit uh maybe 5 5 6 minutes what will take time is creating the combo as soon as everybody has a combo all right well that's going to conclude our uh presentation on cahoot uh thank you Miss Don Wilson participants um I it's really a lot of fun uh before we move on I do want to remind everybody to uh make sure you sign in if you haven't done so already so um I'll put the sign in link 1 more time uh in the chat uh if you're in zoom and if if if you're not in the zoom remember you can always go to schooly and uh use the sign in Link in the schooly course uh there's a folder for that for today's PD you know let me get ready okay so moving on let me share the uh presentation slides Okay so what you should be looking it now uh is our next topic uh this is a very very similar uh application or website it's called quizzes uh a lot of great things here um between cahoot and quizzes uh you'll have more than enough activities uh for uh to make your lessons a little bit more engaging a little bit more interactive uh a little bit uh the term nowadays is gamify as well that you can gamify your lessons uh to give your your students a a little bit more of a a game experience so the name of this is quizzes I'm going to start uh with a uh step-by-step how to sign up and what you need to do because uh I think that uh you'll really enjoy using this app as well so go ahead and um go to quizzes.com I'll put that in the chat as well uh so that it should be easy enough it's qu i z i z z quizzes.com and it uh the first thing that you should see let me actually go to the next slide is they're going to want to ask you to um create a a a basic account like everything there's free accounts and more expensive accounts uh so we're going to work with the free accounts today uh so once you get the quizzes.com before you get to see the actual website uh you want to look for their uh getting this get a um account and the first thing you see is they ask you a lot of questions so the first 1 is I plan to use quizzes for what and so um select School and then uh you can call yourself a teacher what's interesting about this uh your students can also create accounts and that helps and allows them to participate but it's not necessary but for you go ahead and select a teacher and then uh continue and then they ask you a few more questions uh they want you to know they want to know the name of the school so what's a little bit interesting here is you start typing North Valley Occupational Center and you don't see it so what do you do click on can't find your school and plus add you click down here and then it tells you add your school and when you now when you start typing North Valley it appears and I'm not sure why we didn't make the first cut off but we are in the second cutoff so you can select North Valley Occupational Center by clicking on it and then you click on Save but you're still not finished they want to find out some more things so add your subjects and grades uh and I guess that just helps them uh suggesting to you so you can pick some of those and then uh select your grades um of course they don't have 1 called adult education um so do your best guess I think that probably since we work with adults we probably should keep it to you know maybe seventh or eighth grade and above but you could certainly select vocational training if you're a CTE teacher that certainly makes sense and so I went ahead and selected a few things and then of course finally uh you click continue and oh you're still not done so go ahead and Select 1 of those if this is your first time ever select I'm new to quizzes and then Select 1 of those you know what are you most excited about do you want to learn how to use quizzes do you want to create assessments with AI which is part of it uh improve student engagement find resources go ahead and pick 1 of those and then finally you should get your setup complete so for those of you who are following along or have you reached the setup complete I hope so if yes I'll continue on uh if not then I'll give you a few more moments okay let's go ahead Okay so finally you're at the quizzes homepage okay and note the 5 major tabs at the top for you assessments lessons interactive videos and passages so for you they probably uh suggest those based on the uh the grades and the topics that you uh chose just a few moments ago uh uh today what we're going to do though is we'll do the assessments we'll start with those uh just like cahoot you can find assessments I was going to warn you uh just like with all material that you borrow from somebody else at at when we start to to uh look for uh an assessment okay is that um you always have to double-check to make sure things fit your sensibilities so for example I happen to be you know looking for uh some ESL type uh questions and I came across this 1 in a quiz uh there was quite a few of them like this so yesterday day at 4 I blank to Megan on the on the phone so first of all there's a you know a typo there that you'd certainly want to fix the the duplication of on the but the other problem is there's chosen answer was talking yeah sure that's fine yesterday at 4 I was talking to me on the phone uh that's 1 certain way to use uh as continuous uh and simple past together um but you know why not talked yesterday at 4 I talked to me on the phone perfectly fine sentence uh same with that next 1 I saw before we left we had booked a hotel room obviously they're using some sort of past perfect there but why not just say before we left we booked the hotel room so again that's always a caution with any work that you borrow uh there are you know hundreds of thousands of people creating these and not all of them have the same sensibilities uh that you might but in any case let's just like we did with uh just like Idris uh and Don did with cahoot let's go through some of the uh actual creation of uh an assessment so let's say I want to click assessments Okay so you have some choices create from your study materials uh import from Google Slides or Docs uh create with a link and and uh the other 1 is custom create okay and then you have a few videos here uh to help you but let's say we go ahead and just click on our create and it asks you what would you like to create so again we'll choose assessment you can Port worksheets generate with AI or uh create from scratch so let's try this create from scratch and uh at this point just like with cahoot you can search from uh search in quizzes made by other people so let's say for example um I'm a history teacher and I'm I want to find something about the US Civil War that's what we're some of the students are studying so you have a search box and you notice you have filters uh but you have quite a few obviously so you know you can you can filter like for example if you don't really want to look at the fifth grade 1 you know filter for certain grades and then you're only shown the ones that include those grades uh just like cahoot they have some that are labeled premium but you won't be able to access those without upgrading senior subscription okay and then uh you can see all of the questions in this particular quiz and you could pick all 10 of them or uh select certain ones so you just click on add a question and notice it's sort of adding them over here on the left so you picked the ones that you think are appropriate all right and so to say we're we're finished with that so here you have them uh then at any point of course you can also edit uh that particular question so let's say uh that's out edit this 1 okay so these dates are significant because they represent uh so I don't like the date of so maybe I'll put the dates so I've gone ahead and edited and then I have to save it okay uh you want to do you know search uh some more questions you you could do that um notice that all of these questions are set to a minute 5 minutes 1 minute so you can change that you know if you if you think that a minute is too long you can change the you can change how many points but let's say you have 10 questions or so you can also change all of them at the same time change all the time to 30 seconds see change all the points instead of 1 point you know give them checkpoints and it's a little bit more efficient okay so uh they have some few other options uh that you can use their AI to find similar questions so again you could you know search through those pre-made quizzes by yourself but it added 3 new questions if you like them see you can save the changes and now you have 7 questions and of course you have some other options add explanations if you wanted to see so you get another explanation for each 1 so I think this uh the option here allows you to uh really create some uh very very interesting uh quizzes okay so uh they have some other thing other tools that the AI will do but let's get out of that and see how you play it so let's say you're you're with this uh you have your settings so maybe give it a name of course uh this is civil War questions for period 1 okay choose a topic this helps you you know find the things later did I skip a social study history is probably a good 1 uh we were let's say it's High School and save it okay so now that it's ready you can preview it and see what it would be like okay or go ahead and just publish it and publish it means that you can start to play so at this point you have some choices again you have the preview uh you have the uh assign which means if you have uh you can tell students like you know you could probably what happens when you do a sign you have these accommodations but um let's just skip them for now so what you do with the sign is a sign it's a special you know specific students or all the students in a class and then they get it they can get it at certain time uh and play it uh on their own or you can let's go back if we just go ahead and start to play it start now oh we don't want to do the accommodations at the moment you have different modes of the games and you can uh go through and try all those different modes okay and we'll just go ahead we're not going to assign it we'll have unlimited attempts uh we'll just start okay so at this point uh if you're in the the room or you're online you could either use your phone to uh focus on the QR code open up another browser join my quiz.com and use the join code so for those of you who are still here uh Mr oh Miss Miss Wilson Mr Lemon Mr Takaki go ahead and use your phone to join the the quiz please so just use your phone Point your phone at the QR code and then add in your name and so on my screen you can so uh I'm joined and somebody's it was uh making a joke about my name I think is joined uh so you have 2 choices you can uh use the QR code or you can go to joinmyquiz.com and use the enter code 53448 how are you doing Mr Takaki how how are we doing there Mr Takaki is Mr Takaki uh trying to join if if you're doing it from the computer go to joinmyquiz.com and use the join code was Sam is Mr tacky close to being able to join the quiz there we go there comes Spencer okay so now that all the participants are here I can click on start get a little countdown so on your phone or on your screen okay so I can see that several people have answer and then you get the next 1 and if you look up at the the shared screen as people answer you can see the leaderboard changes and there we go you also get your congratulations and you see who the winners but um sort of exciting and you get some uh analysis after the after you play seeing which ones which questions were the ones that most people answered correctly and uh which ones uh were not but in any case there are several different modes that we played it was rather automatic it just kept going 1 after the other uh but in the different modes uh you have different opportunities um to play different styles uh of game but 1 thing before we uh finish up here I wanted to show you uh some of this really new uh the new features brought about by um AI uh and 1 of them let's take a that I found really interesting was this 1 questions from a worksheet or question bank or create questions from a website uh or online article also create questions from documents so in this 1 particular example I just want to show you um let me find the actual uh Word document Okay so uh I have this uh article about climate literacy uh it's for academics not for ESL for academic students but you can see it's just a long textual document I did actually get it from a website but I I saved the text um as part uh of my project uh as a Word document so then what I did was using this create questions from documents see if we can get to it uh I just uploaded it into a quizzes and it created this group of questions all on its own I think that's you know a wonderful new capability uh that these programs have that you can take you know quite extensive work or a website or a document and have it create questions I think it's a it really can be uh very very helpful and then notice that there's some options up here you know you can also edit that of course but there's a worksheet option and so what you can actually print that out easily when you click the the worksheet option you you you get it in the form of a handout and then it has a the typical print or download button so you can create your questions and then very easy easily convert them to a paper handout to use in class I think that would be a real Time Saver I mean I'm sure we all remember having to type out these types of quizzes on our own uh but now you you know you have the the text you is the AI to create your questions and then you use the these features to print them out and you can pass them out in class that same evening so in any case uh we're getting very very close to the uh end of the workshop so let me go ahead and get our well first of all uh let me ask you if you have any further questions about that quizzes uh but what I want to do is get the uh evaluation link and drop that into the chat for the quizzes so uh this evaluation Link in the chat is for both uh the presentation
