hi students this is principal Melissa McCarthy with the North Valley Occupational Center this is the first in the series of our weekly video updates I put these videos out and send them to our staff as well as our community members I'm hoping that your teachers will be sharing these videos with you every week if you missed the video Never fear you can always catch up on information about your school by clicking on the school website while we're on the website let me point out that we have have our back to school message for our students and Community students classes start for you this week August 14th which is a Thursday the only change in the schedule that you need to be aware of is if you're an evening student evenings students will begin their classes this year at 6 PM they will be starting class slightly earlier than they did in previous years we will all be also be making a an adjustment to our evening break schedules for our program at our campuses break will be held from 7:15 to 7:30 so that is the only change other than that we are so excited to be welcoming you all back for the 2526 school year which again start Parts Thursday August 14th now prior to that day staff this is for you Wednesday August 13th we will be having our back to school meeting please plan to report to the North Valley campus a little bit before 8:00 a.m. because we want to start our program on time we are serving breakfast for you and we're excited to welcome you back to the school year now students and staff some of you actually um came to school and worked or went went to classes in the summer and I want to let you know that summer was incredibly successful and productive we had over 1,400 students enroll so that's a great start to the new year and we're looking forward to even more success and exciting programs and services in the new school year so let me click off the message for the back to school and just show you our website now I mentioned that if you missed my videos there are archived right here on the front page so you can check this out and then teachers I'm going to make a suggestion if you would please if you have the time please send this video out as a welcome to all your new students prior to the 14th this is a great way for students to feel welcome and to be able to recognize a new face at their school if they don't already know me my goal is to make sure that even though I may not be able to meet each and every student in our school since we have over 7,000 students currently enrolled they will at least be able to recognize their principles through the video messages and of course I give valuable information not only to our staff and community but to our students as well speaking of which students if you're interested in uh looking for information about various different Services resources and fact um that we are 1 Campaign which is the campaign that LUSD runs to support our immigrant students and their families all of those resources as well as other resources can be found by clicking on students and going to the page that has all of these colorful buttons when you click on the buttons it will lead you to the information and resources that you need that is 1 wonderful 1 great resource we have for our students so please tap into the North Valley Occupational Center then additionally students I want to remind you that persistence is important teachers and staff and students we will be monitoring persistence very carefully this year our goal as a division and as an individual school is to raise our persistence by at least 3% so that means persistence means that students are coming to school regularly every day students please it's important that if you start your goals please complete them and don't fall behind by missing class we're here to support you if you need to make a schedule change where you need resources or assistance please let our counselors in your programs know and they will be happy to assist you and then finally I just want to mention that we will be gearing up for our midyear cycle report so we will be tapping into all of our students staff and Community to help us write the report that is due in June to let the react know how much we've accomplished in the last 3 years and where we see ourselves in the next 3 years thank you and welcome back to school we'll see you in school
