hi everyone this is principal McCarthy with the North Valley Occupational Center video update for the week of September 15th 2025 I hope you're all having a wonderful week I am a little delayed in getting this video out but is still lots of great news to share about your school Community First of all I wanted to start off by telling everyone if you didn't already know this is actually National adult education week and so there are so many different things things we can be doing to support adult education 1 of them is advocacy please if you are interested in supporting adult education and keeping your adult schools and programs open and funded we ask that students and staff always make sure that they send out the letters that we will periodically share um through our different organizations supporting adult education to really Advocate at the state and federal level for continued support of our adult education programs our lobbyists are working for our students all of all the time right now we are focusing in on support and getting bills passed in the California state legislature to protect our immigrant students that's just 1 way that adult education is about this thing and to protect our communities and make sure that everybody has equal access to wonderful quality high education and training programs so what can you do to support education besides advocacy well students let me give you a few ideas of what you can do like us on social media go to our Instagram page make sure that you're following us on Instagram pass that Flyers ask if you can get some flyers and if you're in a local event or you go to a church or you're involved in any other community groups organizations sporting events past those fires out also just a simple Act of sharing your positive experiences about your programs here is actually the greatest compliment to us and believe it not the most common form of advertising for our school so those are some of the ways that you can advocate for adult education week let's celebrate together the great things that are going on and all the successes in adult education throughout our nation and particularly here in LAUSD also I wanted to mention that this last weekend Friday and Saturday we had the huge division-wide La career Expo I want to thank our students and our teachers who participated all of our volunteers and our support staff who really just knocked it out of the park and made this an incredible event um Mr Lura graphic design Miss Delgado Child Development Miss Hansen welding um Mr Zeal Mr Solace Mr D sigelei from the aviation mechanics program Mr LA from Automotive Miss bartee from medical assistant and our LVN teachers Miss taruk and our director Miss Hera also again I want to thank our advisor and our administrative team for just the incredible support showing up preparing even if you could make it there thank you for everything you did um and our support staff for really making sure that we had all the materials we needed and we're prepared to show off our programs Services it was a great event I don't have a final headcount but I can tell you on the first day that it was only open to high school students they're probably uh somewhere between 4500 and 5,000 high school students the next day was all about the public and adults and as soon as I have some numbers I'll share those with you and we're looking forward to doing this big event next year okay um this week everybody remember that um today is lockdown drill both for day and evening it's very important to practice those safety drills to make make sure that in the event of an emergency or you do have to remain safe you know the procedures to follow for lockdown we ask that every student and staff please practice those and take those drills seriously also wanted to remind our ESL teachers that we have the DSL Road Show today from 3:30 to 5:30 that's very important about the ESL um courses that are being made available the newest changes in courses um so please make sure you attend that and then finally I wanted to mention to all the students in staff please make sure that you're checking out the every school safe module remember that last year every month we had different modules um this month is the welcoming and creating a healthy school environment welcoming School environment module so how can you access that well first Miss Ramirez sent those those uh links to all of you in an email plus you can also go to our website and on the banner in the front page you can click on every school save and then also students the other thing you can do is you can go to students under students um you can click on every school safe button and that will take you to this much month's video um for our program have a great week
