and go back and share the agenda okay so welcome to AI basics for Teacher product activity in creating instructional materials part 1 our presenters today are Idris Mangal and Don Wilson uh and I'm Barry Bain so let's get started uh we do have some new rules uh your uh based on uh new rules coming or New Direction coming from the division of instruction uh all Zoom meetings now you have to have your uh cameras on and you should not be uh driving uh and they also want you not to use a cell phone so uh hopefully uh that will remain true and everybody gets to participate so uh just to get started I have 1 little warm-up question and this can apply to the presenters as well but what is the 1 thing that excites you most about this new school year so I'll go ahead and start um I'm actually really excited uh about the developments over there at um Rinaldi in which uh several classes uh in our health occupations program have started and uh are being very very active with a lot of great participation uh so I think that's really exciting the way that uh campus has uh started to develop how about the any of you well Mary this might be a little cruel but I don't have to see anybody what was that it might sound a little cruel but I don't have to see you every day that that's what you're excited about okay well this is this is being recorded so we'll be able to refer to that in the future okay and Mr tommer is noted the potential of getting more finishers than the previous year why do you think that is I'm just always excited about finishing people and I using my canva to put more certificates up on my board in my classroom uh okay all right very nice and miss galingan since you are uh 1 of the uh instructors out the new instructors at the site how do you feel oh it's very quiet there so it's it's good change of pace okay very nice very nice um I do uh want to ask um I guess Mr Davis that would be you as G Davis um if you're able to you have to be able to turn on your uh camera uh to me to meet the new yeah I turned it on I have not I'm not camera shy at all I just I turned it on it says it's on but I don't oh we see is this little icon there that looks like it it looks like the laptop camera hey Mr Davis do you have like a slider on it sometimes they have a slider that covers the camera yeah are you using a laptop and actual laptop or desktop just the 1 that the district gave me it says it says the uh the video there's nothing over it like says video and it doesn't say anything on it okay oh hey Divine what did you do because yours just did the same thing Divine what what did you actually do because we go when when you did that whatever it was that you did we got the same image uh that I'm looking at for Mr Davis I don't know yeah it says the video I don't know why it's not well we'll figure it out I don't want to take too much more time from uh our presentation so uh keep struggling with that Mr Davis see if you can yeah yeah I'll try let me see if I can and then um I'll turn over the uh I'll stop sharing and turn over the microphone uh to 1 of our 2 present either Divine or Idris hello everybody and welcome to this PD my name is uh this is magnel this is my colleague this is the wonderful Mr Donald Wilson um today we will be talking about an AI Tool uh more specifically we'll be talking about magic school magic school um in the years yeah not view being viewed I don't know if that does anything but go ahead continue um the first thing that you need to do is you need to sign in and you want to make sure that you tell that you're an educator because that's what we are and you can try signing in with your SSO but I am never successful with that so what I do is I just sign in with Google and then it takes me right into magic school and so this is what magic school looks like there's a lot of different tools we're going to go over part of them today and then we will cover more of in another training yeah so we we really want to give our colleagues time to uh to really log in or sign up and that really really dived into this uh this a tool I know once once I got introduced to it I mean it's it's really changed my my teaching in a lot of ways I mean I can I was telling Miss Wilson um sometimes when I'm running late or I need something to do I need to come up with a lesson plan um I just does it for me in a very uh short period of time but anyways um so just remember this is free for all teachers um there is a version where you can pay if that's something that you like it gives you more tools if you pay if you pay um but anyways let's get started um so this can work for ESL teachers for academic and for CTE teachers um so really what it does it just really makes makes our life um a lot easier uh so here we go um so right off the bat yeah right off the bat um my favorite thing this is really my uh my bread and butter um is Raina right so for ESL teachers um if you need to come up with something fast um you can pass you can feed rain at anything and uh Raina will give it to you so for example okay let's say let's say in my class I'm talking about the present continuous right talking about the present continuous and I just need just need more more information for my students so what I'm going to do so take a look okay I'm gonna ask Ria okay yes so level 1 present continuous it's 10 questions responses excuse me for a second Idris um did you start sharing uh on the zoom because the people are saying they can't see it okay start over anyone okay all right all right so um we're going to go ahead and sign in as an educator and all you have to do is Click sign in with Google so um this is the main screen of Magic School and it has all of these different tools that you can use and the 1 that we're going to start with is Raina okay go back to this all right so again um something for for the ESL teachers all right so again if I'm working level 1 right uh I'm talking about the present continuous right so I need extra extra work for my students uh to make them understand so I just literally just go here okay we're in the chat box okay ask rain right so again I'm going to say present level 1 present continuous ESL level 1 10 questions responses look here you go okay as you can see what are you doing I'm reading a book is she eating now yes she is here she is eating um etc etc etc right so you gotta do hey I gotta do all right just go over here um sorry copy the image hold on just a moment okay um open documents all right blink documents you know just just smoothly paste it well I just transferred what I generated for Magic School to a Word document and uh you can literally print this out you can print out 20 copies but it mean you have your you have your warm-up for your class um you can also save this document you can printed the copies later if you need to obviously if you use schooly you can upload it on schooly um it's literally that easy all right did you want to stop and then just go back to okay and we we have to share it again um and anyway this gets uh this gets stored you can just get saved right away um it goes it'll be in your history reach everyone to look up your history we can uh in this you can look it up in case if you lose it history um oops so let me go back here so about you so level 1 conversation actually the topic conversation doesn't that was a good news here you go they can generate it can give you a short little conversation what are you doing I'm read a book what are you eating this I mean an apple if you playing soccer know she's studying what are they doing they're watching TV um okay it's Wilson so the thing is too with Raina say you have this and you want to add something to it you can continue to add things with Raina so we're going to have this and then maybe we'll want to have a uh a think pair share activity so we can just add I think pair share activity and project and then it will add integrated those things to it so teachers that are going through or expecting to have instructional rounds or uh any kind of evaluation um I know 32 um with that with with the schools looking for it uh this can really help you uh put something together with uh if that's what you're looking for okay um okay let's say so we're level 3 you decide to use this a lot last year you sell level 3 presents no perfect simple present perfect 2 so if you're an ESL teacher again if you're doing level 2 um I know level 2 is big on regular and irregular verbs um if you just feed it uh we'll give you examples of regular verbs obviously regular verbs end with Ed um give you some examples of irregular verbs and then it gives you some some examples of how to use it good all right this is I walked to school regular and even tells you over here um basically you're just typing in exactly what you want the computer thinks for you right in the past when I started I had to come up with all this myself now uh I just I just I just use magic school I just feed it what I want and uh it gives it to me uh but look uh it gives you gives you explanation right gives you regular verbs you regular gives you examples and it gives you a short little conversation practice right what did you do yesterday I watch TV and cook dinner you go to the park no I went to the mall what did she eat she ate pasta okay and again you can literally you can just copy right here right copy the message paste it on the word documents save it upload it printed make copies you have your lesson um you can also edit this okay let's say if you want to add something all right take something out you can edit it right you can walk in in there all right you want to put the sound T sound play Visa booked Isom I just want to put the sound in there the sound of the you can do that okay so you can you can adjust it if you need to if you want to add minus um that option is there for you maybe just save it there now it's that sound is saved what your adjustment has been saved you can also export it if you like if that's easier for you okay but the best uh the best technique from my experience is to copy it and paste it on a word doc and uh go from there the thing is too is you're not limited to pasting it into word if you want to do PowerPoint slides you can always paste it into PowerPoint um it makes slides out of it um to do a presentation that way you just have to edit the slides add the Transitions and those normal things but as far as the content you can get that from Magic School um you know and you can do other things too say you want to come up with a lesson plan you can always go to the teacher tools you can do it in bring up but you can always go to the teacher tools and you can have it possibly so with this you can tell it what the grade level is right so we can say you know University if we're dealing with something like mine is more technical so I want to make sure that it's higher level not necessarily something for kindergarteners right so I can change with the level is I can have whatever the topic that I want to do so uh hey directory congratulations yeah I I can I can uh move a I can move a piece of plastic very good thank you for doing that okay sorry for the interruption everybody but I I do want um all of our participants to get credit for uh you know participating in the workshop and all right good job Mr Davis I have things that I want to add to it you know I want to have again maybe you want to have some group work Google fi work in the middle right then we can go ahead and we can generate it so you can see it makes the gives you your learning objective what the assessments are and it kind of key points and any of the material that it puts together you have to make sure you read it and proof it yeah because I I have some mistakes so whatever you generate uh so don't don't just blindly copy and paste and say it's all good no this is the beginning you still have to proof everything you have to modify things you have to adjust things so maybe this is good but maybe you think the lesson is going to be too long so you can tell it uh shortening the lesson to 20 minutes and it'll shorten the lesson for you you okay if it's not if it's too short you can always lengthen the message so that's the thing that you can do is it's all adjustable maybe you like part of you decided Well I want to go ahead and keep the longer message it's still there so you can still use that right okay all right go back here let's go to generate yeah so again um it's going to ask you grade level you don't want to do high school I I would just do done the new University um but once you once you give it what you want um actually let me let me try something let me do something for academics right so academics I don't know I think they usually work 8th grade English 9th grade maybe 10th grade high school diploma okay so let's say this is for our academic teachers okay so here we all right so again this is for academic teachers right um 10th grade English writing prompt worksheet um so what it does it kind of gives you an outline before before you start writing um because we all know good writers what did you do the first first make an or if it's something pre-writing right so they kind of get their thoughts together um so this is this is a prompt worksheet where they can gather their ideas together I put their ideas together before they start um they start um this is for academics but you can also use it for yourself Uso level 6 in writing work okay um so obviously if you're level 6 your next move is academics so English writing practice worksheet level 6 uh writing English helps you share your ideas opinions and experience experiences at level 6 you will practice using more advanced vocabulary etc etc etc okay so here we go when you write a letter you should start with a l right I use a blank to check the meaning of new words for handing in my S I always blank um so it gives you some feel filling fill in fill in the in the blank and it has okay the word bank and the word bank is there for you okay so you don't have to be you know if the students are concerned they don't know how to spell a word or whatever the word bank is there so so it provides what the correct answer is they just have to choose the correct answer for right button uh and as you can see some of these words are more some are easy to ask is easy but really revised that could be the vocabulary for upper level students uh then it gives you multiple choice questions what is a thesis statements a question um I think that's a great question or upper level ESL and even academics right because sometimes academics students um they need to know what a thesis is includes it so what is a thesis a question at the end of the story the main idea of the essay the example of the middle a list of vocabulary words what is a thesis know it's definitely a list of vocabulary words right so we can agree it's be the main idea the essay it which word best completes the sentence he blames his homework carefully before submitting anything so we're definitely going to be revising it so he revises he revises right now person so we're adding us to the early okay so what is the topic sentence that would be a sentence that introduces the main idea of the paragraph So as you guys can see this this I think even academics if they're this is a great recap for them this is um because I think a lot of times maybe they have a hard time writing writing essays so it's kind of just kind of gives them the general rules and ideas about how to do it really great for level 5 and 6 years so does they're making that transition into uh into academics um is most of what is an what is an example of a transition word that would be also wholesome well I had to read all of the words first this was a wider writers use examples that would be to write less of course know that would be making a clear and okay um okay and uh as you can see from the blank readings from uh it's the answer keys on the bottom if you need it um what's the Charmers yes sir all I was just going to say um I've been playing with magic AI on another computer over here and now I was thinking about because I teach um hi set prep and so I have to do essays so I asked it to write a prompt and to write a sample essay to follow the prompt so I can show my students I'm going to print it out and I'm going to put it in so they can see it tonight because they're they're getting ready to try to take the heist and the essays 1 of the hardest parts so it it's really great I'm looking at this prompt that they created and the essay and they can get an exam so that was a great use of this magic AI use Mr chers they'll they'll change your teaching life I guarantee you because it it definitely changed my mind it made my life a lot easier so good for you thank you for trying uh and we will give you guys um some Travelers 1 more thing here for you sat math questions okay um just take a look here I know you're in the math guy here but yeah here do you know what that is PSAT 10 3 yeah okay so but just click it boom see that some Chambers yeah it's nice but I don't need that for mad but you can even like for example what do you do Mr geometry also too no see I use it for I would use it more for writing because I struggle with writing and so he'll help me more in that subject that's why I just printed out the essay because that's not my strong suit but yeah I see the value in it of course yeah let's see even if you if you're doing algebra or geometry um if you I'll give you it'll it'll get we'll give you what you need if you need more examples um just more practice it'll uh we'll we'll generate for you um okay okay moving on Moving On okay okay so again let's go back to move with choice let's go here and uh usually I go University this doesn't really matter honestly um once you feed it exactly what you want it'll it'll adjust for you so let's say let's go to tune questions uh present let's do this what's another academic history history right um world history change this world history um 1950 through 19 1960 so world history 1950 to 1960 Global Transformations assessment okay so number 1 the Korean War began in year the instrument should know this but I want to say 153 53 Davis I say 50 3 after World War II 50 because 41 to 45 I'm thinking 50 okay I'm thinking 53 I think Eisenhower was the president I'm going to say 50 okay baby 1950 1950 1953 so Davis you get you get you get a cookie I said 1950 was I right or wrong the cookie started in I said you get a cookie Mr Davis because you got that correct thank you okay or no or doughnut whatever you'd like I I'll I won't say no to anything all right uh number 2 which political Doctrine announced by US President Eisenhower 1957 pledge American economic and military aid to Middle Eastern Nations threatened by the Communists aggression what do you guys think it was an original plan Middle Eastern no not the it might be C no I think the Marshall Plan is something else I think it's oh that was World War II I'd say yeah I'd say C I mean yeah I would say C too because it can't but Nixon is too late and in other words I think are before that time yeah all right so I just make sense because the answer is in the room right so uh let me just interrupt for a minute this is the type of question I think you'd want to edit because it sort of gives away the the answer you know so again use your best judgment as teachers whenever you use uh AI produce materials uh you know to see that uh you're not messing yourself up toriel comment whether or not Mr mongal uh recognizes it he's very okay so you can go down this list right I asked Rhea to generate me 20 questions here's the answer to all right here's where you can cheat right it's right there for you um again you can refine this you can change the subject you can say 19 listen to a 10s questions about United States history 1980s boom who served as president of the United States for most of the 1980s um these questions for you um so these are tough right there we go yep yep how about this writing prompts United States 3 198 there you go so um Mr mongal I have a question so we're still in the multiple choice quiz section right the multiple choice quiz tool but yet it seems to respond correctly to your new prompt which is not not necessarily a multiple choice quiz so it doesn't really matter like what no it doesn't yeah no that's why the the tools are like it it's a starting off point but once you've used that tool you can always add to it so you can start out say you need a multiple choice you're going to have a quiz and you want to have the multiple choice then you decide okay well now that I've got my quiz ready now I need to have some other activities to go along with that quiz this is not going to be just a quiz so then you can type in what your next activities are going to be and then you can tell it okay now we need a lesson plan that's going to incorporate all of this so you just use that prompt to keep generating you don't have to go back to the teacher tools to do individual items but it gives you a jumping off point so you're thinking about a certain thing you can go to the teacher tool it gives you some guidance as to what to do but then you can continue with that listen yeah that's great I didn't know that this is the best this is why this is why I said raina's my bread and butter because you just go to rain and you give it exactly what you want writing prompt United States history 1980s okay describe the key social or political economic changes in the United States that um and then it's a it's even asking would you like me to help create a student friendly version and Essay outline or some guiding questions for this prompt so you can say what you wanted to do exactly um so so usually from my experience right to make my life easier because there is a lot of components to Magic School as soon as I I log in I just run to rain and I just I just and I just ask it what I want is that what I want uh grammar link test multiple choice blah blah blah I get what I want and it uh it generates from me it's it's it where I have a tendency to do the teacher tools and go to 1 specific area and start off there and then expand from that point so it's a preference which way do you want to to go you know so if you're thinking about a multiple choice question you can start there but then continue somewhere else you don't have to switch prompts just keep using the same prompt that shows up and um just for clarification this can create your text or your questions but it's doesn't necessarily integrate with our LM schooly right so you can't just automatically import something you you have to do like copy and paste you know to I'll have the answer that answer next time okay if I haven't tried that yet but I'll I'll see if it be imported so I mean obviously it would be really convenient if you could just take that whole quiz and and import it directly into schooly but even just copying and pasting you know sentence by sentence or response by response would still be a a good time Savings in 22 States you'll have that answer okay see the hookberry so the next point um okay this wasn't anything I'm assuming Okay so okay so um I'm so charged if you looking for the math stuff I'm just go all the way down it's uh will be all the way the bottom of the page um do you want to dig into the list can we do that 1 there you go okay there you go let's see computers I don't think it'll find something you can try it vocabulary introduction computers introduction mhm so here um this whole thing is a computer teacher um so you were talking about vocabulary so I fed it whether I should I fed it uh computers Hardware introduction introduction to computers oh here hardware and uh it generated for me 10 um let's just include since yeah they are need to to know this because for right they have to put in order to be competent so they have to know the correct terminology so it it makes it easier if they have a list in front of them um and I was telling Miss Wilson that she can she uses a warm up right or again because our school is is focused on discussions with student discussion so long as you can come over vocabulary words and uh have our students discuss that first 15 20 minutes of and I think that worked out for you right so you can even create discussion cards just take your list that you of the vocabulary words say create discussion cards and it's going to give questions 1 of the key components of computer hardware and how do they interact with each other all right so that way you can have the students walk around and engage with each other and it's based on the information that was already created again this will really help you out with if you're getting evaluated or structural rounds um it's going to really really so it's and she said it has been working off order so far so do you want to have them practice yeah I think it's a good opportunity um I was looking at to make sure to give you guys time to uh into this um so then we went to walking through the steps what we yeah so look here that's all so if you don't I mean if you don't have well you haven't signed up for it oh let me just close the portion open okay okay so here we can uh we can just do this so all you gotta do is just type in magic magic School right so once you type in magic school just go to Google type in magic school you want to click that first 1 which is AI Educators uh Magic School okay so this is the first steps um if you're it's your first time it's gonna it's gonna it's gonna prompt you to answer some questions yeah I do the sign up for free uh son number 3 number 3 great educator um again I already have an account so it's not going to prompt me to answer all these questions but if it's your first time using it um I do remember it's going to ask you it's going to ask you multiple questions because do you do the sign up because this is uh we did have some people join a little bit later after the first time um you explained whether to use Microsoft or Google for what can you just review that yeah just use Google uh here I do it again let's go to magic at school I if I I would to log in with Google but it's and then you have to choose my account or you're going to do yours yeah I'll go ahead just folder but again if you're a new user it's going to prompt you to answer uh several questions account Wilson's already signed in um but let's say she's uh she's the first timer for the first timer go ahead and sign up for free educator in the sign up with Google sign up with Google just going to boil me back yeah yeah but if you're if it's your first time we'll go ahead and uh ask you all these questions and then ask you what what's your name is you know what do you want your name to show as because the thing is you can also make a student area of Magic School for your students to work with you can choose which tools they have access to so we're not going to cover the student part of it today so let's go ahead and give us some time uh going to try to if you don't have an account go and try to create an account if you uh if you already have an account has an account go ahead and play with this a little bit um see what you can do yeah try making a lesson plan making a worksheet and multiple choice qu you know um and using the prompt to add on to it so if you start out with a lesson plan then you know think of other activities that can go along with your lesson plan so if you want to have a think pair share and create have Raina create that you know create some other activities for the students if you have any questions we're here how much time are you allowing for the uh experimentation period say I mean what do you think Miss Wilson sometimes so they can uh we can we can present some what do you think I'm supposed to so half an hour about 2530 minutes is that okay and then we'll come back and and share Mr yeah I'm gonna have to go at 5:30 because I got to go from North Valley to Rita Mr if you create something I'm sure that uh Mr mongal and Miss Wilson will give you an opportunity to share before you have to leave isn't that correct yes how can I send it to you from the other because I got the magic AI on this other computer sure that's fine okay and so I can I have to send it to you um actually I'm working on I'm trying to copy from a a um from a PDF because I want to I want to put the question inside the magic Ai and have them do the say on the question well you can take the PDF and you can upload it I can upload it to Magic AI okay let me go let me try that so how do I do that I'm in Magic AI now hold on uh let's see that that paper clip would do it it says up paper clip going to where you're going to and then once you click on the PayPal clip you can do that load file okay I should be able to get I think I should be able to get it from there because I I got the paper clips so I'm just gonna find where I just saved that um yeah there it is okay also um 2 little management things Mr Davis uh I don't know if you um cam filled in the attendance sign-in sheet yet go ahead and make sure you do that uh where's that um I I look in your chat I dropped the link for you there and uh explanation if you can adjust your camera slightly so that we can see your happy face we don't want anybody to say that um you weren't engaged in the activity this is part of the new there we go oh see a hand okay there we go there we go I knew you were there thank you thank you so much yeah and again I apologize for all of this new stuff uh but it's coming directly from uh the division of instruction and then uh to me by way of our principles Grace for the reason it's not letting me sign in not sure why um let me try again I'll do the district uh your with your District email to Chrome sure it's just I worked this is going to be great I have my students write this I say last night and they they didn't do very well but but it just wrote a full essay on so I can present it to them in class tonight I might tell him now I'm just getting they would be really impressed with me if I told him I wrote this this is the oh my goodness the problem okay okay and address let me get back here okay um Andres I just sent you a a PDF of the um when I had it write a prompt on argumentative essays and a and a essay that it wrote because that's the type of essays you have to write for the high set and so I I asked it to write a prompt and then to to write a essay for it so I sent it to your email okay do you want to share it on the screen with everyone it's on a different computer because it's on the computer over here and I'm on it's not on the same computer I'm working on pick up the no I'm kidding just pick up the camera and move it okay all right all right give me a second I'll go back I'm kidding you okay I could do it I mean it's not I got I actually have a couple laptops here but and and a desktop to the spot on their paths all right there we go as you can see it it's hard to see like that argument as France Thomas you could also just sign in from that other computer to the zoom and share it that way yeah I could I could do that I guess um I see okay I gotta find your link again it's all it's all doable Mr chomer I just says North Valley Occupational Center by the way I just tried to sign is said that I see I got to put my am I in it says leave meeting but I don't see what I'm I'm expecting to see I'll join okay there we go okay and then now I gotta find it okay let's see that thing argumentative essay let's see let's see it um I'm gonna stop here let me find it first no here this meeting is being recorded recording all right took me to a weird place so um Mr tommer that's obviously a very well written essay or English writing has improved tremendously since I first met you uh a few weeks ago at the beginning of the semester uh but I but seriously um what are you know your your teaching students how to use this to write nice paragraphs right but they're not going to have access to it when it comes time to actually take their test how are you actually going to teach how to use this to develop better writing but not actually to use it to do the writing and anybody can chime in on that actually for those of you who are in academic settings you may have some opinions about that well I have the students write in class rather than at home so they can use it for um brainstorming but I need to see original writing and that's the same thing that my son's at the University right now and a lot of the professors are doing the same thing Mr Chalmers you're currently muted so we can't hear what you're saying you know I just realized you guys couldn't hear what I was saying no I I'm Mr bikin I was saying that I'm not going to have them use AI what I'm going to do is use this as a model 1 the 1 says I had it right they wrote the essay last night and so I can give them I can show some of the good things like I can point out stuff like the transitions point out the fact the well-developed paragraphs I can point out some of the different things that they may be lacking in their essays and show them a a model that's what that's the way I would be using it oh yeah thanks for that clarification um so this would be an example of uh of a well written essay and some of the 2 some of the different things that they can work on to improve their own their own um essays but they won't be using AI at all to write any essays okay but what I was suggesting is that this is a good example of teacher efficiency and productivity because for you while I'm completely sure that you are capable of writing such an essay probably not capable of writing it in the 5 Seconds or so that it took for the AI to do it for you now if I write 1 half that's good I Pat myself on the back but it's it's the issue of the time involved as well yeah we're going to give you just a couple more minutes and then uh let you share what you've created you guys have a good night see you Mr CH good to see you drive safe all and also um before we start sharing and also while Mr Chalmers is still here I want to say that I appreciate your your evening teachers or teachers who cannot attend on Friday for making the effort to participate uh on these Tuesday late afternoon sessions all right anybody uh interested in sharing that's a trauma is already there anybody else would like to share with us then shake and said Miss Miller it's nice to see you you about to share with us I'll share if you want no 1 else ready unless someone else wants to yeah can you hear me sure okay let me try to do this I'm teaching reading and we're reading right now um as a whole class about the Civil War and we've been talking a lot about um the comparison of the Civil War that time period to now so can you see my screen probably see it a lot of things too let me make it bigger um so I I can you see that yes okay so I just put in um give me 6 paragraph about political polarization comparing present day United States to the Civil War so to 1861 to 1865 and so and for and for adult students seventh grade level so that's what I got and then I asked just like Don are you guys showed me afterwards then I added like something more that I wanted in another box I asked them to give me multiple choice 10 multiple choice questions about the reading so I got that and because I'm trying to um help them with their writing and get them prepared for the academic program I then asked for 5 short answer questions very good and I said said oh yeah and then I said 5 short answer questions um but give me 1 that connects them to their own to their own life or something like that and then I got that last question think about your community or family have you noticed when people disagree and then I thought okay now I want them to write a little bit longer about something that's not necessarily politics I want them to expand reflection questions so then I said something like give me reflection reflection questions for a longer short longer um response for students uh on um polarization that doesn't have to do with politics and then that's why I got I got here these questions when you disagree with a friend or family about agreement how do you try to solve it and I got this these reflection questions so it was really helpful so thank you for giving me the opportunity to uh focus and do this thank you very much I'm gonna bring that to class tomorrow you'll have to let us know in 2 weeks how it works out uh let me also add real quickly before anybody else shares that 1 of the new things that I'm implementing for this uh series of PD uh at the request of uh the principal um is a follow-up survey not just the the evaluation of what we did today and how our presenters did today but in 2 weeks or 3 weeks and follow-up survey asking um what have you done since this time in implementing uh what you've learned so uh expect in a few weeks of a survey stating exactly that and it looks like Cheryl will already have stuff that she can use how about the rest of you more more something else to share can I put you on the spot oh you're eating up um I kind of did my own thing uh I didn't generate a reading I was curious about all these other tools so a lot of them isn't there yeah um what I tend to struggle with as an ASL teacher is sometimes I get focused on the grammar right I want the students to understand the grammar points especially at low levels so sometimes it's hard to like you know be more authentic and so I used the choice board but based on the principles of udl based on topic and it just gives me a bunch of different like project ideas based off of the topic um and I found that to be pretty inspirational and useful um I mean it's it's nothing crazy um or I I really didn't do much but you know I just chose fourth grade because I figured that was a low enough accessible level for my beginning level students and the topic of unit 5 is like traveling and vacation so there's a bunch of different you know assignments um and then I know that there's also a rubric generator too that I could use for each assignment right um and then I also did 1 because within this unit there's also you know how often and how long frequency and duration and that's like really really specific grammar how often how long and so you know this helps me think outside the box and think of different activities they can use Beyond just practicing that grammar but yeah there's a lot of really interesting tools here to see thank you guys any questions okay would you like anything else you would like to add um just 1 more last request if anybody uh who hasn't shared something they actually did to to share something uh just even for a minute or 2 just you know what tool did you experiment with or what did you try and then I give you a minute to do that otherwise make sure that um you do fill out the evaluation Wilson I need to head over to East Valley Skills Center and I want to thank our 2 um
