Federal Aviation Administration-Certified Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS)
NVOC's Aviation Center is an FAA-certified Aviation Maintenance Technician School, operating under the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 14 Part 147. The program provides specialized training designed to prepare students for careers as aircraft mechanics, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in airframe and powerplant maintenance.
Students engage in over 2,000 hours of instruction, combining classroom theory with practical training. The curriculum is structured into eight classes across four major study areas:
General, Airframe, Systems and Powerplant
Courses are offered on a quarter system, allowing students to complete four classes per school year. Classes run Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and daily attendance is mandatory. Each class includes 292.5 hours of instruction. The program also operates under the instructional calendar of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Upon completion of coursework, students earn certificates in:
General, Airframe, Powerplant
These certificates qualify students to apply for the FAA Oral, Written, and Practical Examinations, the final step in becoming a certified aircraft mechanic.
How to Enroll
To begin your journey in the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program, follow these steps:
- Visit the Counseling Office
Enrollment begins at the North Valley Occupational Center’s main campus counseling office, where you will be scheduled for the STEP Orientation class at the earliest available date.
- Complete the STEP Orientation
Attendance and successful completion of the mandatory STEP Orientation class is required.
- Meet Minimum Requirements
You must meet basic reading and math requirements to be considered for full enrollment into the program.
