competition anyway recording it started so here we go so what I do want to do is I will share the agenda and we'll just talk about it a little bit can everybody see that yes okay actually before I can do that I want to drop the the actual link into the chat so that you can click on that link and record your participation Chad going okay sewing and remind me to post this a couple of times for people who come in later but again this is how you designate whether or not you want to be paid get a salary step advancement hours or you indicate that you are actually on the clock already so I hope that works out I think you have to be signed in with your SSO in order to work and there you go okay so just to get going and do a little bit of warm up well we'll have a little question there then I'm going to hopefully take a look at some of the ways we are already using to get students assignments to back and forth and then we're going to look at I wanted to try to I'm not sure if I'm I guess I'm not doing this correctly I'm not what I wanted I guess I can just zoom in using that there we go okay and so using we'll get to the name of the topic of using PDF documents house those are doing this and so I know some of you have already started are using these some of those methods so you can please chime in with your personal experiences and then I'm going to try to introduce this with Kami extension for browsers that it's not going to be a full Workshop it's just going to be a brief introduction the ictas were looking at that as well there's no just like everything that we do there are some limitations and so as individual teachers you have to decide if it's some appropriate or not and we'll finish up hopefully with some questions so get started what I'd like to do is you know go ahead and you guys can either no raise your hands or just shout out into the void one tremendously outstanding positive outcome of online instruction that a student has shared with you and it could be for themselves or for a member of their family so who wants to say something first okay the response is overwhelming high tide I hardly know who to pick somebody must have one good thing to say remember just unmute yourself and shout it out and out come for him is my last two meeting he one of my students and reading was just so thankful and appreciative he's like I don't know what I can do for you to show how much I appreciate you teaching me what I know cuz he sees a academic gross you know so have you opened up a patreon or a GoFundMe account and just give him the link and then if they really want to know call how to show their appreciation I forgot this is being recorded nevermind okay but thank you yes exactly very good that's exactly what I was looking for anybody else something similar I think for me bury someone saying that they appreciated the teaching that was going on in schoology I mean not just that I appreciated the course you know very good thank you thank you okay I want to see something sure I'm okay how about no okay there you go thank you so I'm doing a form course I'm teaching five classes but the thing is as I bounce back in forth between issues and topics everybody loves it because they're learning something new so I'm really having a good time you know it in spite of doing all these classes and it and people kind of like maybe this like sometimes but they generally like the the variety of bouncing back and forth and they're just learning we're having a good time that's what it is and I'm having a good time so I'm liking this I'm really liking this anyway thank you thank you Roy anybody else Thai Spencer go ahead of my shy students they just thrive in the online learning environment inside although they are participating more on Zoom so they're coming alive but before it was like oh boy this is wonderful I don't you know I love the bean house learning so a couple good comments on online learning very nice thank you and for Spencer who just arrived we're just sharing any positive super positive outcome as reported by students to you about online instruction and then we'll move on so if you have anything like that Spencer feel free to share but it's voluntary all right some of them say that babe when we were in the classroom instead of tolerating is very close to us term outstanding a positive analysis of pretty darn good for a lot of people okay I will say for the first time in like 20 years I actually joined a class as a teacher I'm sorry as a student so i a enrolled in a class the right here at North Valley Occupational Center on computer operations and I am taking a class in I think we're going to be focusing on the access database and I've already learned something and change the way that I you know you know that I do a lot of presentations for Teacher so I could create a lot of materials and for you know ever since I started doing this at least 15 years or so it's not more to go I've always use print screen to take a screenshot of my entire desktop and then I copy that I paste that into paint and then I crop things in paint but as a result of taking this class in the introduction to schoology I was in induced to the built-in feature of Windows called the Snipping Tool so I'm not going to go into it right now but typically I never did it but it actually stays a few steps because you just choose it right away and it's open feature so that's my outstanding you know interview of myself that I've actually started taking the class and I've learned something new and of course I'm not surprised at all because I have a lot to learn okay let's move right along and talk about a review of ways that students can turn in assignments let me share my screen again hold on just a moment line manager that and this time we're going to also hopefully get over to my browser and will try to manage a couple of different things at the same time okay so names of the agenda we're over here okay so hopefully I'll be able to get through this this quickly what what are the things that we already do and of course if I don't cover something that you're you're also using please feel free to add so if I am to look at just a basic schoology assignment and let me just find one of them I guess okay so 4 example this was an assignment I made for Miss King as a as a practice okay and when the student tries to do this assignment I see it basically there are three three ways to do that so actually let me go over here one of them the sings one of the benefits of having a just a moment let me see if somebody is trying to Enter The Zoom yes you know what I'm going to do with somebody like to volunteer to be a co-host so if people do arrive the co-host can manage people arriving do I have a volunteer for that very thank you thank you so I'm going to make you a call host and phone case until you hit the little ding dong that somebody's trying to enter the room if you don't mind go ahead and let them do that as I was saying one of the benefits you like to join us a class it's like I have my own SSO and I have my own sign in two courses and so one of the benefits is that I can young browser show you what things look like for students and then you know you can see the sea that what it's like for a student to do what you're doing and the other thing is helpful is when you know you can also join from your phone any of these workshops because you know a lot of our students are using phone and we forget sometimes when you know we say things that is easy for them to to access what what it is that we're doing so in any case on the left side this is my student account and I made myself a student in my own course my own sandbox in the icon for my student account as my little bitmoji so it helps me to keep them separate and then as a teacher I have this other icon so that helps me but in terms of actual assignments there is no this is one of the real differences between what students see and what teachers to see what what teacher Co you're on the right are the submissions of the students okay and we don't actually see ever this submit assignment but which is what the student sees okay and so that's a huge difference when trying to explain things to what students see so if this is the assignment okay and the student is working on the assignment write three sentences describing life under covid-19 which that was the idea back then basically at the way I see it there are three ways that are built into schoology so the first one utilizes the file button and so let's say the students can write those three sentences and they have some capability to do it as a Word document or some other type of document that they've saved on their computer they can click on this file button and then search for the Lippert dealer document and they attached the document and then submitted okay so that's the first way the second way is use this create Tab and what the create tab does let me expand that a little bit is it gives you a little Rich Text Editor so it's not that don't have all the features that a full-fledged I hope you know software like word or you know open Office would have but you have some basic things so the student can actually write their sentences you're right in this box fairy it's Karen Mueller what the student be able to write let's see if they had a paragraph they had to ride or an essay would that be where they could all yes yeah I mean I don't know what the limitations are I don't know let's see how how many it looks like they could ride quite a bit it will Nazi. So the lose it all everything that they've written on there they'll lose it if you train them to do this save draft frequently have you tried that and it'll come up multiple drafts it'll show multiple submissions missions is better than losing their work yeah but you know ice I think that if they if they saved it on a Google doc or if they saved it on a Microsoft Microsoft Word document and then uploading it it's it's a lot better if they if they worked so hard on it and press one button incorrectly they've lost everything that they have their of the built-in options and perhaps is an instructor if you working with longer essays or paragraphs and this may not be the best option for that particular type of exercise and also you know people who are working on their phones you know this may be there cumbersome as well but it is an option okay and and they do have a few little you know things you can you know highlight things and you know you can make list but it is an option once they submitted it automatically comes to you and now and so I've already submitted it and then it would say resubmit and if I refresh over here on this side I should see a new submission that needs grading as the teacher so that's the second one I'm going to resubmit the assignment and I don't know how many of you have experimented with this this third option is this audio video recording and this may be expected for people who are ESL teachers who want to hear what their students were saying this could be a really great way to are students pronouncing because it triggers the recording of the computer or of their phone and they could even record a little video clip for you in and submit it okay and so again maybe not appropriate for every single activity but there may certainly be certain types of activities that you may want to choose this and explicitly tell you know the students please for this response Ford something for me so those are sort of the three ways within assignments that are sort of built-in and are available to us all the time. I had a question worried I had a student who was submitting audio and for some reason it didn't record I can I mean I can I can see that is there but I can't hear it so does it end does wear a headset with the mic so is there something he would need to change when using that audio I don't know there may be a setting on their own phone or computer yes they were maybe have to work with you individually or you know work with perhaps you know me and I can see what what it is that they're doing and it probably depends on their device okay quick question please this is Theresa I noticed that you're showing Windows side-by-side and I can't do that in my zoom meeting is that something you can cover today or maybe in another time oh well actually all I'm doing just sharing my home desktop so you're seeing my desktop pretty much from corner to corner I thought that's how I'm doing good it's just different windows in the desktop good to know thank you and the other thing that's nice you know if you sign into your own your own Zoom meetings with your phone simultaneously like to check to see what you're saying because you said this is what I'm seeing and I said well I wonder if I'm seeing I said corner to corner and then it occurred to me while do the students he corner to corner so I just looked over at my phone and I say yes indeed because in the upper left corner my little Windows icon in the bottom left corner I see this little note here you know and so I verify using my phone instantaneously you know what I'm saying I sometimes do that that's very good to know thank you okay so now another very viable solution you know if this is not working for students you know they all have their sestos they wouldn't have an SSO I mean they wouldn't be in your schoology class if they didn't have an SSO and so that would be reminding students and showing them that they can actually use their Gmail to you know send you an email with the assignment and obviously they're all. They will be sending it to you within enough to your professional work address your LAUSD addressing an dad that's a very viable solution and even if you use your Gradebook coming over here to the gradebook you know you have things you can add columns and things for things that are or let's say for example whatever this thing is they didn't submit advice by way of schoology okay well say the student Ellen speaker for example you know let's say they email it to you you know what you may want to do is under the comment here you put a little note saying you know assignment received via email October 30th okay and you don't have to display that to the student but you make the note later at some point like if somebody says you know why why didn't you know the student get 89 instead of you knows something you can always click back on the comment and remember all yet I don't see it schoology but I know that this assignment was received so you're creating a little evidence Trail for yourself to jog your memory why you gave the student that particular score even though you don't really see a grade or that that assignment as being turned in okay so email that's still a viable way let me just get some feedback from from you guys are there any of you that I've actually gotten assignments by way of email yes okay perfect okay yeah seesaw is it still a viable option you know for Distributing as well as receiving let me also get some feedback on the point do you feel that most of your students are aware that there s s O's are also Gmail accounts how about that Barry I just want to make a point that sometime my management said that everyone has to go through schoology emails are nice to have on the side but it still has to go through schoology that's not okay so clarify you are no by recording the grade through school yet I wasn't party to that particular conversation so you know I don't know how exactly to respond but I would just respond Mercedes the student could not send something through schoology so I accepted the work you know by email but I recorded it and I made a comment in Schoology I would assume that's okay but again when it what they told me everything has to go that's what that's the ultimate goal okay so you do say ultimate goal so I have a student that just absolutely had a difficult time turning in work through schoology and he had to email me his worksheets so what I did is I just saved everything on I'm one of those little USB files and if anybody ever asked me about student work I haven't stayed somewhere else and I think that you know correct me if I'm wrong which I do you know I often am but I think could probably save things like in resources like if they you know you can if you click on your resources you could make a folder in resources where you would upload student work you know until you know as part of your phone how do you add yourself a little folder and call it you know student work oh you know computer operations you know fall whatever this is what is the spring you know 2020 and then I mean how you make yourself that folder okay and then in the folder let's say you could add a file and that way you don't have to worry about losing the flash drive or the USB drive and it's within Schoology I know that's something off the top of my head so what do you think about that idea good it's good it'll do it keeps it all in one place it's still it's in schoology how it got to school maybe was by email you know but it but it's in schoology but busy and you know I just created a folder for my classes if I get any work or any emails for my classes in that I merely put there and then later on I can do with it but just so that you know if your in your email you'll have time to just you know organize that into a folder than a separate party pooper with an Outlook you can just give it a folder for each of your classes and just meet with the email in that and then you have that work in case you get audited or whatever it is a quick things and and the thing is I understand it's the ultimate ideal you know the movement is to school at 300% and that's the what I tell my students you're supposed to do this but I let my students know who some of them are very overwhelmed the frazzled I would like to try once but if it's too upsetting and too difficult for you to do I will accept an email and I'm very clear with them and it's very rare that it happens but at least that it gives a breather to some students are at least struggling and I just feel like we had to put the students where they're at first thank you Cheryl but then again to address what Roy had originally said you know make sure that at some point you get it off of your outlook and into that a folder on schoology so in case everybody anybody ever comes back at you and says why is it not on schoology you can come but it is I'm schoology I see Miss via has a hand raised and I seen this Brady I has an actual hand brace so go ahead first it was for the previous the previous question I hope you didn't lower my hand and I didn't lower my okay I'll lower your hand there we will go to the Rio actual hand that was raised go ahead I was just going to come in on Cheryl's idea what I was referring to like I think that's a great idea making folders for your students and the Outlook in your school email because I don't know about everyone else I'm sure it's happening with you too but I'm getting overwhelmed with emails from students like from the new students are from the files for when they're freshly enrolling students so just to automatically cuz I may not have time to look at them just put them in certain folders I mean it's if something that you said out loud which made me think yes of course why not do that so thanks for suggesting that and then I have a suggestion that would help because produce more than one and it would just take like a minute or two on that side by side it is so easy to do side-by-side and it would just take a minute to show you just to snap it in so when you have time I would be more than happy to so you cuz it's really just documents could go perfectly side-by-side and its really fast so the side-by-side it is so easy to do and you don't have to fuss with it and try to get it perfectly it just snaps right into one corner and the other one in the other corner you have three documents and it will go in three corners you up on that at the end of the workshop remind us those of you who've been with us before we call that Miss Brady and Miss Wilson did offers some that's a very nice in person works apps regarding handy tips of using office as instructors and I'm going to just check to see if I have a brief little Segway here hold on I'll share my screen again this document is my plan for workshops for starting in January and Miss Brady you'll see that there are still some openings and so we could certainly like you know do another one of those Microsoft Office tips for for instructors if you'd be willing to volunteer now that you mentioned that definitely let me know okay will bug you yes okay so hopefully we'll have some time at the end of today okay so email and then the other one that I know that several of you are making use of is Google Drive via schoology or not via schoology and I think that by now most of you are aware let me get back to the course okay and so when you go to add materials okay and let's see your ears you know you're going to add a file or in this I meant you know that if you haven't already done so your Google Drive already app as a link directly within your assignments and if you click on that you will see you can open up your Google Drive and grab different documents and attach them as part of the assignment so that's just see if I have an example I'm not sure if I Google Drive materials practice is signing the document so let's see what that one was okay and so it would appear like this I'm not sure what that spreadsheet was I'll just click on it and hopefully there will be snow there there you go so you know that that's what the the student was Elvis's to access this file take it out of the trash so I guess I did get rid of it at one time and let's see what that looks from a student point of view so again let me go back so as a teacher you see assignment in progress and submit and as a student you just see assignment in my DACA so under the assignment they see the directions okay the student clicks on my document and if everything works out right it will appear you can see it starting to appear up it says it right used to connect me with that maybe because I might be signed into Google with the wrong thing let's see let's see if we can say this sickness asking me to resign in so I had to take one of my many accounts and figure out which one it is and there we go let's try it again don't they have to just in this dude in this is Corey doesn't even have to be signed in in order to yeah it's a maybe to a sink probably what's happening that I'm cuz I'm signed in over here to Google this is getting a little confused with me cuz it's asking me to sign into so I wanted this try that one more time there we go so now I'm signed in as my student identity okay so let's go back will close that one will see will go back to assignment will go back to my document and see if it just opens right away still open okay so it's because it's just like I have too many account but your students may experience this as well so you want to be able to prepare them for that that they have to know that the difference between their personal accounts and their five accounts okay so that's again using the Google drive to get the assignments and then and then of course the other thing with all Google Documents student connect to share whatever it is that they're doing so instead of emailing it back to you they could just share it with you you know by adding somebody you know adding you as a teacher with a shared document so again another possibility you know you have to decide what what works best for for you and so in my agenda at this point I made a little d as in other so I was just going to ask you are there any other ways that you are interacting with your students and giving you no assignments are not okay Cory go ahead turned off their ability to to use on proofreading cuz they're actually going to proofread so if they is if you leave that on then they can just go and have the spell check and all that so you can go and turn that off so they can't okay that's it that's certainly an approach and a suggestion anybody else any other ways legal preferably that you interact with students and get assignments back that pretty much covers it I can show you what I do it's a little bit I cover mobile programs and when you say show do you want to share yet okay Missy so let me minimize here you sure my screen first all right and minimize everything all right so give an example multitasking grading papers and I'm hurt Roy I'm hurt you heard but I'm trying to be productive here I'm even more hurt now so if I go to the section 2 is what I'm dealing with and what I teach I'm supposed to be brand neutral in order to comply with the ic3 requirements for a teaching computers so if I go to spreadsheets they're going to send me some laboratory exercises I'm going to go to the great book and then I'll go ahead and grab some work here you here and I'm going to go ahead and scroll across and I'm going to grab a spreadsheet exercise let me just interrupt you for a second MR2 cocky did you see what mr. Premiere by showing the full. idle we just we just talked about it yesterday show the full titles titles you can see the names of all your exercises I'm going to go ahead and pull up a conversion table that they had to do and they're told to do it in different programs so this is going to be for example WPS it's going to be open off is this going to be a Lotus 1-2-3 believe it or not that's still being used to this day I'm dumb and I set up a system so I can download call Lindy on the file and there it is and that I can go ahead and evaluate once I evaluate I'm just going to go ahead and get the grade then go okay so let me stop you right there you said you set up a system exactly so what is the system that allows you to that allows the student the system unit that when you're doing this is okay and getting set up your going to have your programs in your house working you saved the docks you say some sample docs and then you got to go in and say to Windows example you got to tell Windows what's what if need be so if I go for example where I save my documents I'm going to be C drive data and I'll set up some sample files or I'll just get some of the exercises here notice a different extensions so Windows doesn't recognize a particular program or app you right-click your properties and then you're going to say link it with a particular so this is how you tell windows and it's going to be very similar for Chromebook and Linux almost identical you're going to say take a nap and if you can't find what you want you say show me some more more and then you you look for what you want. How do you get it into the schoology thing about once you set it up here and your operating system what you want then School when you when you kick it in here when you set up your exercise so let me go back to the exercise here I wasn't course 2 and I was doing a spreadsheet and I was in the LaPorte section and then I'm going to pick this year I was in conversions so right here so I set up the rubric and then here's the book in the exercise how do I set it up okay this is where I go back until the students in their downloads how to set up for their class so if I go back here to e-learning orientation start a little bit slow course material downloads office program downloads I have all the links to download the different apps all free all legal also have the files directly for the apps in case the links don't work and when you run them they're going to run them and it will automatically and I'm talking about it being schoology distinguish what's what based on the extension of a file is created in other words it's like a cowboy friending it sounds like this may need a full workshop on its own but again my particular question was how does this from the student point of view when they are they still clicking on upload a submission absolutely absolutely so whatever they do create they upload they're going to take the files out the control going to file taking a file with a control key and they can submit multiple files in one submission okay Melissa you saw I do have some openings ice will move on though because it's it's a little bit too much for what you know I have the time allotted for 4 today but thank you for that and boy I think we can all appreciate that you do a lot of organizational work to get your courses up and run so I thought I applaud you good job good job Roy okay let's let's continue let me get back okay so that was another so that really really great okay so let's move now into the using the PDF documents and you know for example in that one that Roy said and also we've got a few different ones you may be sending out a PDF okay and so let me just see if we can see what that may look like okay so in this case you've gated of a PDF of some sort and what the student will see is this PDF and then you'll they can view it or they can download it okay and then the clock question remains I forgotten I forgot to share rookie mistake okay so in this particular and that's why having the phone next to me helps because I was able to see if I was looking at the page or looking at myself so might be a typical example you've you know you've created a PDF as the assignment and the other student with download that and then the question is what does the student do in order to fill it out okay and so you like I've heard from teachers using different different methods okay let me find us a slightly different one cuz I noticed this is I had originally created this is a fillable PDF so I want to I want to pick a different one let's see what this one is okay that's an actual link with a p I want to go back there we go okay so this is just a straight PDF okay and student with Dan with click on it and it downloads to the computer and then they may be open the file okay and then what do they do okay so my understanding at this point you know if they have a printer they could print it out okay and then they've got to get it back to you so students have been taking pictures and photos of after they printed something or even if they just look at it and then they recreated on their paper and then print it out and then take a picture and then what I was you know shown by some of our teachers that you know there are now websites that you can use to assist with this and so the one seems to work well is called a PDF Escape there were a few others that I watched his students try to I think I bookmark but maybe not probably actually on the air pdfescape okay but it didn't work quite as well okay so just happens to be a free program so you can also do other things but we want to try to stick to free so what the student dies then is they select upload a PDF to PDF Escape okay and so you would obviously have to demonstrate this few times and it says choose file okay or they can drop it so let's say for example we select choose file we just downloaded right so it should be the very top one in your downloads folder and we open it up and then it appears within PDF Escape so any questions so far okay so let's let's continue but if you do think of a question now there are a lot of tools here you know you don't necessarily need most of the tools and there's that advertise also but for example on the left side you've got the the text tool a form you can create your own forms also or fields images so let's see if I click on a text okay so I can hopefully this will work nice I'll start riding so the list is what countries have you ever been to type your name so I can just start typing and let's see I've been to Canada I've been to Mexico I've been to France etc etc and notice I really didn't have to do too much it was you're just basically quit in New York anywhere on the document and you can start adding your text okay so does that seem like an end and what I liked about this for either website is I didn't have to worry about like trying to make out a field and align it up exactly with the your whatever lines are on on the document okay now so what's the next step the student is not finished yet okay the student you know uses a whatever it is that they need to do you know the free hand you know they can draw toppings on their paper they can upload an image okay if they need to so if you choose a file let me find some pictures and then okay so let's see if there's one I like and somewhere it will appear it may take a little while hopefully it will appear I'm predicting it will appear based on past experiences but I do see it appearing some disappointed let's try it again could be underneath underneath I don't know how to get it to Beaver revealed maybe I need to drag this first or something to see drop file here and we'll try it again maybe just loading this is please upload one file at a time well hopefully it will appear maybe that was a very very large file and we'll just move on as if there was no no snag at all we'll just move right along Okay so what the student have to do is choose this one save and download PDF okay so now it's coming back to my computer okay and then would I would I would do is perhaps do the show in folder cuz it looks pretty similar right I would perhaps suggest to the student that they renamed it okay so you know my exercise fortmic know my country exercise and then snow put the student name on it say okay so now it's back in downloads folder okay so now the student can go to their assignment resubmit the assignment okay find the file find is number 2 in the Dow close but they can put it anywhere and then make sure they're uploading the one that's correct the one that they've actually works on and then you know they can always put a message and it when they say submit so here is revision to okay let me go back to the teacher version okay find that one was that number three yes I think it was number three okay so now there it is I can now open it is. sure and hopefully everything is there keeping my fingers crossed and so at least that much as there I guess we never got the the the image in it but now you can work with it so that's basically how these websites work this one seems to work better than others can I get some feedback from you now as to whether or not you tried this particular website or other similar websites that do the same purpose anybody Cadbury I've tried one called dodo I started earlier in our in the academic meeting but it's called dodo.com I put in here how to spell that so that's good thank you okay and doesn't do the same thing that's the same thing and I what's the thing you can put text boxes play freelance handwriting in there and then they save it you know when you were saved when you were saying that the files looks the same after you save it after you save it at the end of that stayed Simon with all the answers in it there's a parenthesis one at the end of that that's how you can tell the difference. Which one is the one with the one-eyed that's a general thing whenever any file gets downloaded or you know you save and it's already got one with the exact same name I think it's I don't know if it's a Mac thing but it's a Windows thing where you get the one in the Francis he's afterwards so okay so you recommend zolo.com anybody else download Okay so I mean you stop pretty much what it took for the pdfescape would you say one is easier for students to to do than the other how to me the dodo look cleaner in terms of Mark so many different icons around you know I like lean I like clean and easy what is the feedback bin for students who use phones I don't think you haven't told me but that's essentially all my students are using soda to submit assignments on schoology if you don't mind perhaps in the future ask some of your students who use xodo if they are how many of them are using phones and if they are experiencing any issues or or problems with that okay I see you're raising your hand I think that that would be ideal if we had everybody had laptops or computers but I mean I have people who are using their they're on your tablet so I mean they've been very creative and how they have managed to put their information into PDF and get it back to me but how exactly they're doing it in two pages all different ways they're just using whatever whatever pops up there are able to type in the PDF and then they send it back so I say okay and then so you say send it can you are they using these submit assignment button are they emailing them to you are they sharing okay so you you go and open your Microsoft Word file and save it as PDF and it can do that for you or if you don't see save it as you can still do it as a word as PDF please use them within Microsoft system you can even download as well let me interrupt you there okay so what I did exactly as you okay so the first option I tried was file save as and then you select instead of Word document you select PDF and so what really is well I think right now we're working for our office grams in particular are you saying if you go to print okay instead of something are you selected printer type right like if you're going to change printers and then for example there's one right Microsoft print to PDF I presume that's the one that is internal built into Microsoft and then it would make it a it prints it any type of external program to to create your your pedia okay so what I wanted to do next is as far as I noted try to show a a bit about what's called the Kami extension for Chrome browsers and you may have seen this referenced in workshops at the beginning of this summer or other workshops that you've attended where people are talking about something called Cami and now that the limitation though with Cami and Furs on them please jump in if I get this wrong is that exit let me instead of sharing the student version let me share the my teacher version First okay is that you may see as a teacher these indications let me get out of here actually in your enlarge that we can see it better you may be seeing the indications that's open with Kami okay and so all of the ITT 8th have been Fielding questions about what that means and what it is and we as a group The ITT Ace have not yet a quite decided how much of a good thing to say and how complex it but it's the one limitation that we do seem to recognize this is a Chrome extension and so not all devices have Chrome and so it looks like it can be extra confusing or perhaps not workable for your students who may have iPhones or iPads even though there may be some workarounds the question would be you know how much of a benefit is this in so I'm still investigating it I know that some of our teachers have to have started to use it and so I think I'm going to put the Miss Serrano on the spot and ask her a real quickly before I continue what her opinion is of using Kami with the Kami app I have stay that not all of my students are using that that particular app to to fill out there PDF forms I use it as one of those alternatives for students we're having a difficult time writing on the worksheet and being able to answer the questions on worksheets that we have on our contractor course contract so I use that as one of the the options and it happened to be that this this kind of spread like wildfire with me students because one student mentioned it to another student and then all of a sudden I started getting students submitting with Kami so then I added Cami to my extensions and recently I don't know how I got an upgrade I didn't even realize I received an upgrade and I have all these other wonderful things like built-in dictionary immersive reader and so I I thought this is Ray I could share it with my students and then realize that not all of my students have that I just got an update from our We Will Rock You the glue and leusd has paid for a licenses that it was July 2021 that is one of the reasons you are getting those awesome signed up with your SS on LAUSD SSI can I said that you know you got whatever it is that teachers are supposed to get show you what it may look like in you know it's going to be hit or miss one thing I forgot to preface this entire thing with my lecture you may have heard before where I say this is all transitional there in terms of instruction because the whole idea of using a PDF and filling it out you know this is a transitional technique to allow people to use paper okay and you know that's the way we taught for decades if not centuries before paper perhaps you know Stone tablet and chisel and you know the instruction has not completely caught up to technology so the fact that we even want to scan a piece of paper and then convert that to a PDF is in terms of today's technology going backwards what we should be doing is using the tools within schoology to build our assignments using the quizzes using the papers using another paper sorry I didn't mean to say that you're using text and everything is internal so that students don't even have to worry about the whole PDF thing but we're not there yet and for those of you who come to us from the academic Department you see that because like in that first like the fierce. When school was schools were shut down and then all of a sudden you know we reopened way back in what was that you know April or whenever it was that we first reopened what they did you know is somebody at central office took all of your cup course contracts and ran them through a scanner correct and then you were provided with scans of paper documents and this is not you know by anyway Schaefer form the optimal method of instruction when we have so many built-in tools videos and other things that don't require a student to fill anything out on a piece of paper but anyway yes I see you Cory has a comment your you're muted Corey question I do have Cami I'm signing in I haven't used in a long time so do I open from Google Drive or do I open from computer wealthy was supposed to happen and I you know what I may have some screenshots because I Was preparing to do longer presentation a full workshop on using Kami and I know you having issues with the Messiah Assessments in Schoology then I created and so I wasn't having issues if I have I had stuff in resources that someone else created and pulled into assessment that was working fine so in our PLC today someone I mentioned we should be creating all of our material and resources and then bring it over have you heard that before farzana what it means is that you will have your own you know assessment that is in your own resources folder and so at any time at any term you know whatever the time that you will always continue you can go ahead and get it think of it as a resources folder that you see I'll pump you up that area is your own little cabinet think of is that area in your own person you have your own cabinets and everything that you file and put them away and awesome stuff like that cuz that is the area so that is what they meant by that doesn't mean you always have to do it it is Cory's asking is if you have to create them within the resources I don't think that's true I think you can create it in your course and then uploaded to the resources afterwards I think the point is when you transition between semesters are transition between Court you want to you don't want to lose what you've created in your course this semester so don't forget to upload it I think perhaps their recommendation is if you create it within the resources first you don't have to find the number to find a new member to upload it at the end of the quarter working properly so you should be creating your assessment through the resources and then move it into your classroom agree with you or Corey I have the same issues and the technical meeting that we had maybe about a month ago that was a comment that maybe everything should be created within resource and then exported so to be a custom horse first and then go to the provision course II that might let me interrupt here by saying that sounds like a good question for another Workshop thank you for that Corey and for Roy but we're moving right into a 2:01 p.m. and so let me just take a quick look with respected PDF scans there are legitimate and if anybody or any and you want to take that into an electronic form but three ways to do this people you can scan it with an OCR and take it out to a word processor says I'll word processor such as word or Word Perfect whatever that's all she won the second is to go ahead and scan and Export as a PDF and then you can export from a PDF to again a word processor the third option is to scan it as a PDF and then put in some fillable heels and you can make that electronic and it's quick and it's fast but you'll be up and running Electronics in your class so those are the options that you can do for us PDF scan from paper to electronic thank thank you Roy there's one quick question farzana did you say further farzana did you say that, you will automatically download in schoology for students what it means is that the students when they go on to school just like you and I we go to our own schoology and he see our courses that he went off to see their courses right so because LAUSD suit sorry part of LAUSD and days so then you so they will also see it actually very calm if you will let me share the one that you did not get to see the open with Kami I'm going to show you the one from my aunt so so since it is to let me say that if you feel like you need to leave that's okay I'm happy to stick around for you know another short.
