hi everyone this is principal McCarthy with the North Valley Occupational Center and this is the video update for the week of August 12th 2024 I want to welcome everyone back our students our staff to North Valley Occupational Center for the new 2425 school year we're excited to see you back in school there's a lot going on and I want to let you know that every week I'll be sending out these video messages which will be 5 minutes or less to give you a brief update on what's transpired the week before what's going to be happening in the current week and to celebrate any successes that are going on with our school community so let's jump right into some information first I want to take us over to our website it's always nice to have that as a backdrop and I want to mention to all of you that um we will be focusing on 3 major themes this year at North Valley 1 is communication 2 collaboration and 3 excellent customer service those are themes that have come up in my first 2 months here working with the staff at North Valley and these are all issues that we feel are critical and important so that we can work to strengthen our community as a team by working can collaboratively together to find ways to improve our Outreach our communication our collaboration as well as the customer service that we provide for our students and the public we want everyone to call us and to walk into our doors I feel welcome here at the North Valley Occupational Center we want to make sure that we are always putting our students first so speaking of students here's some good news about data when we looked at the data we did send out out wage through our connected system which is our phone system that sends out messages to both home as well as cell phone and then text messages over the weekend we sent out these messages to remind students to come back to school since today is the first day of school we'll be using the connected system on a regular basis to remind our students and staff of important events that are coming up in our school calendar but while we're talking about calendars let's remind you that we've added a new feature to our website that is the master calendar the master calendar is very important for all of our stakeholders because what it does is it tells us exactly what's going on and what's planned for the upcoming school year you can click on any of the dates to see what's happening for example if we click on today's day you will see that on August 12th it's the first day of instruction for the fall term so please check our website regularly for the master calendar so that you will always be able to say hey principal McCarthy I know everything that's going on with North Valley Occupational Center as my school community now going back to the main page I wanted to also um mention that on Friday tonight we had a wonderful breakfast social that we hosted here at North Valley Occupational Center in the morning for all of our staff and I was so thrilled to see that many of you uh took advantage of that breakfast social and got together where we talked about where the school was at in terms of performance at the end of last school year and where we're going in this school year taking a look at District division as well as school level uh initiatives and plans we'll be talking a lot this school year about how we're going to align all those plans so that they make sense in terms of what we plan to accomplish for the school year I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank 2 of our team members miss leemar our school SAA and our office technician elisabet Velasquez Velasco who has volunteered to be representatives for the CC AE for North Valley Occupational Center and what is that the CC AE is the Cal California Council on adult education they will be giving us valuable information and letting us know about opportunities with ccae so that we can stay involved in advocating for adult education throughout the school year also I want to highlight that today we had a special visit we were selected at our aviation center to have a visit by the superintendent of LAUSD the superintendent came by as well as the news media to tour aviation center her that we highlighted as 1 of our outstanding adult education programs we want to thank him and his team for visiting us at the aviation center today we became part of the superintendent's first day of school tours so please look at look for that information on the social media for LAUSD finally I just want to let everyone know Administration will be visiting classes this week to say hello to our students welcome back
