everyone this is principal McCarthy with the North Valley Occupational Center and this is the video update for the week of January 21st 2025 so this week normally I talk about data but um we're gonna take a little break from that because you know as you know our school is doing very very very well with our enrollment numbers and our completion numbers and our cases testing numbers so uh we're going to just talk about couple other items that are of major importance today uh first of all welcome to the second semester this is the first day we're starting the second semester I cannot believe that the school year is halfway over it's just amazing so um Good Luck to all of our students that are starting their new programs uh this coming week and Welcome to our school if you're brand new um what I want to do is I want to talk a little bit about uh immigration services and resources now as you all should be aware um we have moved into a new new presidential uh Administration and there are a lot of conversations going on about immigration rights and services and people don't really know exactly what's going to roll out as far as um immigration rights and services and so we want to make sure that we provide our students with resources so I'm going to go ahead and click over to uh the LUSD website and here on the LUSD website um you'll notice that um the page is here so you can copy that I'll also send the link uh the live link out in my video message but um this is for our students that are looking for support and information this is an excellent page on the LAUSD website uh under the title of uh we are 1 and here you will see all of the policies of the district um regarding issues related to immigration and student rights uh there will be a series of know your rights webinars that will be offered and these are the flyers for those so please check those out and see if those dates meet your schedules students if you do not need this information but you have a family member a friend who does please share this information with them um we also have information for um the wellness centers because we know that a lot of our students are feeling very anxious right now and concerned about what their future is going to look like so if you need social emotional support uh the wellness centers are a great place to do that so here is a flyer uh in English and vanish um there's also a great flyer here in different languages about psychological first aid what we can do as staff to put support our students when they are dealing with um very heavy um emotions and feelings and then we have a step-by-step family preparedness plan and then the other thing I wanted to highlight are what are called the red cards so I'm going to show you 1 I have 1 here in English and Spanish and we have actually distributed these to our campuses they will be made available to our students who need them and are interested in getting immigration legal Resource Center Services um this is also kind of a quick cheat sheet or guide that you should probably keep with you students if you're interested in this particularly in your homes in your wallet um giving you some specific reactions and actions you can take in the moment uh to protect your legal rights so these will be available in our offices and in our counseling offices at all of our campuses and then finally we have the national immigration Legal Services directory which if you go to this site and you click on your state which of course for us is California you can get specific information for organizations locally that can support you so I do want to share that um then I'm going to go to our website and I want to mention a couple of things well first let me go to our Master calendar and show you that's even on oh the date isn't on there whoops that's a mistake we should get that date on there but staff this 1's for you and then I'm going to give uh an announcement that I'm going to let the students know this Thursday at 1:30 at North Valley we're having our job fair it is open to all staff uh and student leaders who wish to come and participate to help us plan for the job fair which we are having in March I believe this year and then on the 28th students we're having a very special presentation uh we related to inclusive and affirming schools for all I'm asking that you if you're in Edmore Valley or can make it please come Thursday the 28th and this is on our website thank you and have a great week
