hi everyone this is principal McCarthy with the North Valley Occupational Center and this is our weekly video update it is for the week of March 3rd 2025 we're going to start by taking a peek at some data and see what we see where we stand as far as our school performance so I'm going to align myself up here so we can take a look at the North Valley Occupational Center Line and as you can see as of the date of February 24th our total enrollment had reached 5,549 students now as you can see that is great because that means as compared to the same time last year we're up uh as we look at our total programs by 7.6% and as you move across to the different columns this is ESL you'll see that ESL um is our fastest growing program we're up by almost 20% as compared to the same time last year we're showing growth also up in the adult basic Ed category as well as our final column over here which is CTE which is up by 14% as compared to the same time last year so uh great stuff to report to our school stakeholders and then I also wanted to point out how are we doing on our process stats will persistence remember is the attendance of our students we want to make sure that our students are coming 12 or more hours of attendance and that's what we're looking at we don't want no shows which is our zero hours column here and we certainly want people starting and then dropping out before they hit that 12 hour mark So if we take a look all the way over to the last column 12 hours more of the tenants you're going to see that our overall persistence for North Valley is at 71.4% that so this is excellent I want to commend all of our students for making sure that they are making every effort to get here on time and also all of our staff that are encouraging and supporting and making instruction excit and meaningful and applicable to the real world for our students so we are doing great in terms of our persistence let's keep on changing that culture so that we continue to grow in this area Okay uh next thing I wanted to point out was we did have on um February 12th we had 2 uh Zoom sessions for our school Community for both our teachers and our students and that was about the we are 1 campaign this is the Immigrant resources Rights Campaign for the district and I just want to remind everybody that that information if we go over to our website is located here on our website we did have those uh Zoom sessions for students and and staff but if you're looking for more information on immigrant immigrant rights and uh resources please go to services and click on student support resources and that will actually take you to this page and if you see we have all kinds of different resources listed for students but if you scroll down to immigrants Rising um our immigrant resources start there and then the LUSD we are 1 information if you click on this link you can get all kinds of support and resources we encourage our students and their families to do that please know that we are a sanctuary school and District we will continue to fight for support the rights of our non documented students at our schools and within our district um next thing I wanted to point out was that we are going to be having summer school so let me be the first to let our community know um your teachers may have already mentioned to you that they're filling out applications for summer assignments which teachers by the way and advisors those are due this Friday however the students you may not know this but once again we are going to have a 5 week summer session and you might want to note this down so you don't take vacation if you're planning on coming to summer school that will be from June 25th through July 25th for summer school all right uh next point I wanted to bring up with skills USA we did have teams compete and uh we did beautifully in the skills USA North Valley Occupational Center our career tech ed students earned 12 medals 7 gold 3 silver tube bronze for a total of 12 Metals so congratulations to those students they are moving on to the state competition in Ontario and then hopefully on to Nationals in Atlanta Georgia congratulations to and their teachers from welding graphic design and Child Development and then finally I wanted to mention that we are having a food drive so please check with your student council reps to support our food drive have a great week
