High School Equivalency Test Information

Before you register to take the official HiSET exam, you must create a student profile. See instructions below.

How do I start the process of enrolling/registering for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)?

To complete the registration/orientation process for the COMPUTERIZED VERSION of the test, you must have the following items, or you will not be able to register:

  • You MUST be 17 years or older to be able to register.
  •  Bring your HiSET ID number with you come to school to register. YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE THIS NUMBER CREATED PRIOR TO SIGNING UP FOR THE HISET!! WITHOUT THIS NUMBER, YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO REGISTER AND YOU WILL HAVE TO COME BACK PENDING AVAILABLE SEATS.
  • If you need to create an account, you may do so using this link:

https://test-takers.psiexams.com/hisetcalifornia/auth/register

WHEN YOU CREATE YOUR HISET ACCOUNT, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE NAME YOU USE TO CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT IS THE EXACT SAME NAME THAT IS ON YOUR IDENTIFICATION! IF NOT, THIS CAN DELAY THE PROCESS IN YOUR ABILITY TO TAKE THE EXAM IMMEDIATELY.

(Example: If your name on your ID reads as Joe Student Leon, do not register as just Joe Student. Make sure to include both last names, Joe Student Leon).

  • Must have valid state identification (Driver’s License or ID card) or government identification (Passport, Consulate ID, or VISA) along with Proof of Residency (utility bill, phone bill, current insurance documents, cable bill, ect.)
  • Must pay cash or money order in the amount of $150 (full battery) or $30 (subtest) for computer-based test (checks or debit/credit cards are not accepted) or a DACE issued Merit Certificate.
  • If using a Merit Certificate, you must present the print-out certificate on the day of in-person registration.

How Long is Registration/Orientation?
Plan to spend up to one hour to complete registration/orientation, depending on the number of students present.

How Many People will be Tested on Each Exam Day?

The first 15 candidates in line with the correct items listed above will be registered for the designated exam(s) day/time. All other candidates will be asked to return for the next scheduled registration/orientation day/time or be referred to alternate testing site to take the exam.
