Foundations to Health Careers

Course Description:

This course is designed to allow students to explore diverse careers in allied health with a focus on knowledge and skills required for successful transition into the healthcare pathway. The course provides a fundamental understanding of the essential concepts in health care with an emphasis on core skills and knowledge, preparing them for more advanced topics in future courses and applicable to a variety of the health professions, desirable employee attributes, and job seeking skills. Students will be exposed to career exploration through multimedia, guest speakers, options through classroom scenarios, engaged learning experiences, and classroom hands-on training. The competencies in this course are aligned with the California High School Common Core State Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards.

 

Prerequisites:

A minimum reading level of 7.0 and math level of 5.0 as measured by the CASAS GOALS reading comprehension test. A basic knowledge of computer skills.
